Impeccable insight, Nap! I'm sure the age factor (as well as my choice of friends) had a significant impact on my experience with respect to the Dalton Bond films.

When License to Kill premiered, there was very little advertising to promote the movie. I remember seeing just a few TV spots for it. By that time the producers were complacent, thinking that just because it was Bond, the movie had a guaranteed audience and word of mouth would be the best means of promotion. Unfortunately the summer competition was great and LTK did not fare well. I think if the legal problems were resolved and Dalton were able to continue, he would have had a longer run. A change of director from John Glen would have benefited him too. I think Dalton's two movies are much better than the seven that preceded them and the four that immediately followed.

From what I know its true...apparently they thought 'Licence Revoked' meant having your driving licence taken away....
Here in America at least, there was alot of press coverage during that time regarding Brosnon not being able to play Bond because of his Remington Steele contract holding him back. People were expecting him to be Bond after Moore, and when it didn"t happen, perhaps some people thought that Dalton had "stolen" Brosnan's gig. So Dalton had that strike against him already.....If I remember correctly, when Goldeneye was released at Christmas time, there wasn't a ot of action movie competition, plus people were starved for a Bond movie after a 5 year absence.....As a result, the GE box office was a huge success right out of the box. The anti Dalton fans ignored these enviornmental variables and used the comparison of LTK's box office vs GE"s box office as unfair comparison data for Dalton vs. Brosnan......
