Tomorrow Never Dies Opinion

My thoughts on Tomorrow Never Dies from my blog. Synopsis: great action (per usual), but weak villain and I never bought the 007/Paris love connection. More analysis is here:

I just wrote this for another site:

    TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)-

Pierce was now very comfortable in the role, and it showed. Not the literary perfection of Dalton, but a GREAT cinema Bond in the style of Connery blended with Moore and a dash of Lazenby. Nice mix... Hatcher was beautiful, the 'little Danish' was a nice cherry on this sundae, and Michelle Yeoh was, for my money, the best Bond girl of the entire series.
Carver was suitably psycho, Stamper was a good henchman with a subtle bark, but an enormous bite, and Dr. Kaufman was an exceedingly creepy toss-in that it was my great pleasure to see terminated. The humour threatened to go over the top many times, yet never quite managed to annoy me; M's "Pump her for information" came the closest, but even in that I appreciated her poking fun at Bond in a twisted motherly way.
Superb & flawless PTS, Vic Armstrong provided Pierce with some frankly stunning bits of choreography (glass ashtray was a gem), and Michelle's Hong Kong background shined something fierce. Even the too-much machine gun nonsense didn't detract (TSWLM & GE must have desensitized me). Torture talk, gunning down the Devonshire sailors so coldly & Bond giving US what we wanted with respect to Carver put this one pretty high for the sadistic thing in my book.
After Eric's sombre score for GE, this was a delight. Not Barry, but as close as I need, personally. Great thematic work off of KD Lang's fantastic song, too bad it wasn't up front.
Hands down my favourite Bond of the nineties.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

Hey Todd, very much enjoyed your review. We see eye to eye on almost everything. And I agree with chrisisall, Wai Lin is the best Bond girl in the entire series.

There's one big element I disagree with you on: Johnathan Pryce as Elliot Carver. I loved him in the role. Let's face it, media moguls like Rupert Murdoch really do desire world domination, and I love how Pryce references William Randolph Hurst. Pryce is so psychotic abut he's enjoying every minute of his scheme like a child. I like when Pryce makes fun of Michelle Yeoh's martial arts moves.

I'm not a fan of Terri Hatcher as his wife, she's bad, but she's not in the film that much and to be honest, she sets Brosnan up for one of the best love scenes of the franchise.

The fight in the sounproof studio is very funny and it has one of my favorite car chases preceded by a funny Q scene.

TOMORROW NEVER DIES is exactly what you'd expect from a Bond film and it delivers. It's one of my favorites and I think this is one of the more overrated films of the franchise.

Yeah, all villains don't have to be physically threatening. Hell, even Blofeld was no Grant.

I loved everything about this film. Carver was a great villain and i think that Paris and Bond were plausible. Especially in Bond's hotel room haha

    Hey guys

after reading all this I am defintly watching it again today, still remains one of my favourites of the Brosnan Era. Even made myself a variation of the Orbis skyfall cufflink and changed the moto to Tomorrow never dies (in Latin of course).
    what do you think?

True, though i reckon Savalas' Blofeld could handle himself in a scrap.

Just watched the first half of tnd and I agree that Hatcher was great and yeogh was fantastic as a Bond girl. The hotel scene with Paris still one of the best of the modern series and shows how much Dc is missing with the ladies "erhm I cant seem to find the stationary" ...oh look I bnged her! Brilliant, what a crock of sht
