someone PLEASE give me reason not to hate DAD

In my 007 blog posts, I've rewatched Die Another Day. Hadn't seen it since the theater. Hated, hated, hated it. The CG technology alone was just a low point in the franchise for me. Very curious to see what those of you on here thoughts were positive aspects, if any...

    Well...............................
I loved the opening Titles, some of Danny Kleinman's Best. very inventive as usual.
Brosan IMHO gives a great performance.
The first hour is very good, Pitty it fell flat for the second one.

I actually really like the fencing fight.

But overall, the second worst bond film for me.

it's a good study on how to make a Bond film vs. how NOT to make a Bond film all wrapped up into one concise package.

here's my list redeeming qualities that make it not worth hating:

exciting pre-title sequence with hovercraft chase and "saved by the bell" line
bond getting tortured during the titles was intense
TSWLM themed union jack parachute scene with "London Calling" on the soundtrack
Great fencing match ("first blood drawn from the torso!" is one of my favorite lines)
    ice palace was quite extraordinary
Zao was a great henchmen. (with the expensive acne)
Nice car collection. Green jaguar with mini gun. Vanquish was cool when visible. Exhilarating chase on the ice.
References to past bond films. It was fun seeing the mini-jet and alligator sub from Octopussy in the workshop.
Miranda Frost was a great evil Bond girl. I was definitely rooting for her in the final fight.
I like seeing Brosnan play 007. Regardless of the script falling apart around him.
DAD provided enough bad scenes to make folks ease up on ol' Roger Moore a bit. :)

anyway....those are my reasons vouching for D.A.D. No Bond film is a total loss. Each one has something special to offer.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

From a literary, serious espionage, and adult escapist POV, I will beg to differ.
From a cinematic, nostalgic & plain fun POV, I agree totally.
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

The PTS and titles sequence were great. I may be in the minority, but I think Madonna's song fit well in its context and nicely complemented the titles.

And while I strongly dislike DAD, I will say this: It is a good looking film. The cinematography is first class.

I agree. And the first half or so is pretty good Bond, in my opinion. Also, although her dialogue is mostly terrible and her acting in the film leaves a lot to be desired, Halle Berry is an absolutely gorgeous Bond Girl. So there's that. :D

If you liked MR, odds are you'll like this too. I don't care too much about credibility of certain scenes. These films are supposed to be extraordinary events, not things you'd see outside your window. I actually enjoy DAD because it's the only film that displays an invisible, armed Aston Martin. Zao's diamond face adds a strange menace, the ice palace has to be one of the coolest sets, and it's great to see all the action scenes in the film, minus the excessive CGI.

It's an ok film to wander in and out of when it's on the telly, shame it's never been a bit Xmas Day telly. The gaudy colour is less jarring on the small screen, and in classic Bond tradition at least there's a change of scene a lot (though it gets bogged down in the Iceland stuff for two long).

Actually, if only it had some great gags like DAF did, I might even like it, esp if it took itself less seriously. The invisible car is Disney really though, irredeemable. As is parasurfing.

No worse than a guy with a third nipple! At least we know how the diamonds got there! :))

Well, why didn't the dude just pluck out the diamonds & sell them? Hell, some of them would probably fall out on their own!

Hmmm... a third nipple seems more plausible suddenly. 8-)

actually third nipple is a medical plasuability, a mate of mine had it...hence why cruelly up unto our early twenties he was affectionally known as scaramanga. He had it removed though.

    read it and learn kids

i would imagine like my mate craig, scaramanga was born with it, unless of course he was in north korea when suddenly bond set off an explosion and a nipple flew onto his chest and magically stayed there.

If I had a third nipple, then no way would I get it removed, purely for my love of bond (Ok, maybe I AM crazy) :))

I suppose that you could say that in some ways its a loose adaptation of the Moonraker novel, but with the preposterous plot of DAF thrown in for added measure!

The fencing scene is great, as is the torture scene. The scenes in Cuba with the sleeper agent are rather good - reminiscent of Mathis and Bond in QoS. The first hour is good, after hitting Iceland so-so where we go into comic book superhero and sci-fi territory. These elements do not a good James Bond film make, but I think that EON may have learned the errors of their ways with the present Daniel Craig era of Bond films! That's another positive that can be taken from DAD - the negative reaction to it can be seen as the infkluence for a return to the back to basics Bond ushered in with Casino Royale in 2006.
"The tough man of the world. The Secret Agent. The man who was only a silhouette." - Ian Fleming, Moonraker (1955).

No, just no. Moonraker is funny, tense in some places and has a whole lot of class. This Sh*t is the worst Bond ever, though I do enjoy watching the sword fight.
