Most people seem to see TWINE as a 'love or hate' kind of film but For me The World is not Enough is just simply a bog start Bond adventure. I've often by intrigued by the completely different view points on this film since it came out and I was just wondering what the other real Bond Fans think of the movie and what they feel the positives and negatives (excluding the obv. Christmas Jones)

and also how they think the film holds up against the other Brosnan Bonds.

It's my fave Brosnan, it has the feel of the old ones in a way. The scene in the banker's office I just love and it sets the tone; it's like the pts of Thunderball. I like the jokes and the way the dialogue flows. Direction is unobtrusive.

But the colours are muted a bit and GE is better eye candy. Oh, the women give me the horn, even Jones who I actuallly don't mind at all. Warmflash is great too. Brozzer's most natural performance, though they hate him in this on mi6-hq.com

I can suspend my disbelief in this film, I can't in many others. It's fun, it knows it, it doesn't push the seriousness to hard imo

I'm with NP, it's my favourite Brosnan Bond. He's totally confident in the part and the story is strong as well as being deeper than TND or GE.
The female parts are better-written than the norm (legend has it that we have the director's wife to thank for this) and better-played too. Elektra is most definitely not the standard Bond girl, and though some have voiced their objections IMHO M is at her best here, though arguably her decisions may be at fault.
David Arnold doesn't top his fine work in TND in the cues for the action scenes, but his main theme and "Only Myself To Blame" (aka "Casino" and "Elektra's Theme") are among his best 007 work.
The supporting cast is colourful- Coltrane and Carlyle particularly, we'll gloss over Richards- and the backgrounds riveting.
Ok, so there are lapses of logic- hardly unique to a Bond movie- although these are only apparent in re-viewings. Some great lines ("I never miss"), some very Bondian scenes ("One last screw..."), a touch of sentiment ("You're not retiring any time soon... are you?"), and the delectable Sophie Marceau, one of the few who can act better than she looks (and that's saying something).
Oh, and I believe there's a boat chase as well...?

Although I like GE more, I think TWINE is the Bond film in which Brosnan gives his best performance. I also think Sophie Marceau is a top-notch Bond Girl, both in terms of looks and acting. The PTS is one of the best of the entire series, and it was great seeing Robbie Coltrane back in the mix. Two major drawbacks for me - the obvious (Christmas Jones) and the underutilization of Renard, especially the aspect of his lack of ability to feel pain. Other than that, TWINE is a very solid Bond and I enjoy it quite a bit.

I agree with many of the points mentioned here. Brosnans performance is certainly throughout and I also like Elektra King (and Renard) as the villain and feel the more emotional plot suits the whole tone of the film. The PTS is fantastic in my opinion, along with most of the action with only the para hawk chase and the climax in the submarine being slightly underwhelming. I just can't help but feel that the film is a bit duller than the other Brosnan films - perhaps this isn't a bad thing - but there is no real life and energy to the film but the scenes of suspense mainly make up for that on the whole. My favourite scenes are the the action at the caviar factory and Bond being tortured by Elektra. Watched it last night and enjoyed it more than usual, certainly an underrated Bond.

Agree about the action, and Vic Armstrong seemed to struggle a bit. I enjoyed it at the time but the action should be like a sex scene in a porn movie imo, ;% you should be able to watch it by itself without the build up and it should be great, as with the pts of TSWLM. The boat chase is well staged but not that excitingly directed, compared with a similar chase you see at the end of Face/Off, two years earlier.

TWINE I think is one of the very top Bonds. In listening to the Apted commentary, I admire the intelligence and care that went into this production. A shame Apted could not continue with at least one more, instead of the train wreck that followed. I'll go on to bravely say that TWINE even presages SKYFALL, in the way M is given a chance to add more complexity to her relationship with 007 (the Scottish manor house doesn't hurt either!). Brosnan also has a more assured way in the role too. Last but hardly least, the Elektra King role is absolutely stellar in the Bond canon of characters, and it's a shame Sophie Marceau has been often eclipsed by the naysayers who constantly go after Denise Richards as Christmas Jones (who to me wasn't as half as annoying as I anticipated). There are so many elements that work in this movie (including the exceptional PTS) that I find it disconcerting how some judge it as a lesser Bond.

I love the opening scene in the bank, though there is a bit too much innuendo in the dialogue, but the brief action is intense and the following Bond moment is one of my favorites, other then a few brieif moments after though that i like(shooting Elektra). The action outside the bank scene is so dull and bland, it takes the energy out of the films flow and everything from the SFX, music and special effects pale next to the fantastic action in TND's. That said, i do love Denise Richards in this film and think shes one of the hottest Bond girls, i could care less that her acting is horrible or that she isnt a believable scientist, Pierce Brosnan isnt a convincing secret agent either, its all part of the fantasy.

I honestly think it's slightly harder to believe that Brosnan is a secret agent in this particular film than in his previous two adventures (not sure why) but I don't think that this hurts the film in any way whatsoever and he is still a fantastic actor and makes an awesome Bond.
