What's your Bond-esque drink?

Have you ever been out in a swanky bar or restaurant, and felt it was a bit naff to order a beer? Perhaps on a date or with a client or somesuch, when you're trying to be a bit more upmarket than you are when out with your mates?

I'm always stumped to know what to drink that strikes the right note between being a masculine drink (no umbrellas or cherries please) and something I'd enjoy, and which 007 might drink.

So what would you order?

Nyetimber, an acclaimed British sparkling wine, or 'Champagne'.

    Jaeger Bombs.... :))

Without doubt my favourite is Old Fashioned.

I feel bond would enjoy Tanqueray and tonic too though, I certainly do (too much).

    Double scotch, neat please!

Though I realise I look and sound more like Scotty than 007.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

No offense, but to be honest, I've never felt that way. I order what I want and drink what I want. And I love a good draft ale, so that is often what I will get. I don't feel the need to act "upmarket."

If not quaffing beer or wine, I do love a good Martini. Unfortunately, it can be surprisingly difficult to get a good Martini at most bars and restaurants. Many bartenders seem unaware of the fact that Martinis have vermouth in them. My fallback drinks include a G&T (I like them with Beefeater) or perhaps bourbon on the rocks.

Last night I had a Captain (captain morgan spiced rum) and soda (club soda) with a twist of lime. Felt mildly Bond-esque.

It's all in how you order it :).

Usually vodka on the rocks or vodka and 7 up as long as it is a premium vodka

Luckily Martinis have been featured in everything from Ally McBeal to Mad Men, so ordering a Martini will no longer mark you out as wannabe Bond.

Some 20 years ago, well in Finland anyways, if you ordered a Martini (or worse a vodka martini) you were labeled out as a wannabebond and ran the risk of getting very bad service in a bar.

Since then the Cocktail revolution has taken the world, and Finland, like storm and cocktails as well as cocktail bars are a lot more frequent sight. A sad story from the years gone by, is when I visited a bar in Jyväskylä, a town in the central Finland and ordered a "Rusty Nail" the bartender had no idea what went into it or how to make one. I had to give her an impromptu lesson in mixology, she was grateful enough to invite me to a party that night... :x :x :x

Anyways, happily Ian Fleming wrote enough variety into Bonds drinking habits, so we can order just about anything when we're feeling like Bonding. If Bonds drinking were as dull and monotonous as in the big screen, it would bee just too humdrum to even bother.

IT depends on where i am if im in Greece its ouzo,if im in Florida its Jack Daniels with ice,
if im in New york its Brooklyn steam beer,Jamaica, has to be Appletons,i find if your order the local
"brew" you will get the bartender on your side, and in a crowded hotel bar i have found you will get
great service,A word of warning if you ever go to a former Yugoslavia country dont drink the slivervich
but kicking back in the garden bar-b-q ect has to be Heineken,
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

You mean Slivovitz, the plum liquor? Yes it is horrible...

I have to confess on this Bond-esque drink thread that I have also called tea "mud" in the work place cafeteria in order to elicit a few giggles from the girls working there; didn't work, they looked at me cross eyed and said I didn't have to drink it if it is so bad... :)) :)) :)) :))

Bond is at his best when he smokes a J and starts imagining he's in space like in Moonraker.
