  Not necessarily. He could be doing it for power; possibly power over a large nation-state. Remember that China is in part funding him and wants to see the Cold War go VERY hot. That and he has a huge corporate backer in Japan who you get the feeling might gain control of Japan while Blofeld gets one of the two superpowers. I always looked at him extorting from the two Chinese agents to just be an opportunity at hand.

  Not really...I just found it kinda obvious when Blofeld's entire plan is world domination.

  World domination is best served out in the open, with world leaders in established nations with wealth obfuscating real events to further political/financial agendas to increase corporate wealth.
