"The Tourist" with Depp & Jolie

Just saw The Tourist last night, and OH BOY was it great. If you like Bond movies, you really should see this- I can't even tell you much without spoiling, but trust me, you'll almost certainly have a wonderful time with this one.

I thought it was incredibly boring and way less clever than it thought it was.

A fine choice of locations, but really thin to me. The dialogue and actions seemed unrealistic by mistake and it seemed like they just picked stars. Jolie's acting was more appealing than Depp's, as I remember in the film.

I'd personally say its skippable, but at the very least don't pay for it. I think it did poorly with the critics and public, too. It was the butt of some Golden Globes jokes that year.

Oh my, we DO see this one differently I'm afraid.

) I BOUGHT the movie, and I look forward to seeing it again relatively soon. There are a number of Bond movies I liked it better than... okay, not many, but still...

I actually quite enjoyed it, maybe because it was so badly panned by the critics that my expectations were so low going in to it that I was pleasantly surprised or maybe because I thought it was good fun and visually appealing. It wasn't a classic, but at least it wasn't pretentious or absurd like so much of the absolute crap out there.

I like movies that aim for a reasonable mark & hit it. Too many try to be the next big franchise or something.

Seriously? Not pretentious or absurd? Maybe I misunderstood the plot.

Wasn't it akin to Die Another Day's excuse for the missing villain? A super plastic surgery made model-handsome yet still natural-looking man that could escape investigators and the whole long, arduous safe scenes? Running on a green screen set in pajamas and a typical Paul Bettany performance? Was it supposed to be funny or dramatic? It certainly wasn't great at either. I'd absolutely call it pretentious and absurd. I definitely thought it wanted to have its plot and unbelievable cat and mouse game taken more seriously than it should have been.

See, in retrospect, it was all about

when the note said to pick someone that resembled him. The whole believability of the movie hinges on whether you buy her picking him because subconsciously she recognizes him even though she consciously believes he's a different person.

I bought it, you didn't seem to. Oh well.
