What is your favorite James Bond escape trick?

raptors_887raptors_887 CanadaPosts: 215MI6 Agent
My favorite scenes in every James Bond movie is when somebody's got him cornered and it looks like its all over for him but he finds a way out of it every time.

Probably my favorite is in GoldenEye where he's got 5 or so guys with guns pointed at him. He waits for Boris to click the pen 3 times and then hits it out of his hand and it explodes.

As a kid I was amazed with the "Croc" escape from the little island,
In LALD. -{ still think it's one of the greatest stunts ever put on
    film. :)

I always liked the way Connery panicked and talked his way out of the "laser-assisted vasectomy" in Goldfinger.

I agree with Thunderpussy. That made quite an impact on me when I was young. I like the way Bond talks himself out of the unhealthy position he is in in Goldfinger better done in the novel than in the movie. However, in the novel Goldfinger doesn't know Bond is a spy.

These impossible situations are what is known as "Snake Pit" Situations that the writers dreamty up to put James Bond into. Probably my favourite one is Bond encased alive in the blazing coffiin in DAF and the crocodile island escape in LALD,. The laser scene in GF is the classic example, of course. Interestingly, these all appeared in Guy Hamilton-directed films. Is there a connection here, I wonder?

I'm thinking of writing a The Bondologist Blog piece on this to complement the "Drax's Gambit" one on the action sequences in the James Bond films.

Another one I like is in TLD when the plane is going down. He gets in the car and puts it in reverse and backs right out of it before it crashes.

the lazer in GF is great,,

and the tense look on Connory,s face is real,, to make that scene the steel table was painted gold, and underneath was a guy cutting through with a blow torch,,, that steel would have been getting damned warm !! lol...

Goldfinger is of course THE escape of the series - and he manages to talk his way out of it! and that was probably the hardest part about it!

The Croc-run in LALD is awesome too! Not to mention the boat chase that follows :D

    A personal favourite of mine is during the PTS of Goldeneye when Orumov says "You can't win" and you just know that Bond can! And does! -{

Here's a couple that have yet to be mentioned.

The mountain climbing scene in For Your Eyes Only where Bond is left dangling in mid-air, he uses his shoelaces to help pull himself back up in a race against time to take out Apostis.

In Licence To Kill, Bond is surrounded underwater and looks like he is fighting a losing battle then fires the shark gun? at the sea plane and makes his escape.

Oh yeah thats a really good one.

There's no room for panic with James Bond. He stays calm and collected until the villain makes one slip up and then its all over. The tables have turned. Thats what I like most about him.

I don't know why but in GE when bond is standing at the ladders and 006 points the gun at him and says "see James,I was always better" before Bond drops the ladders for another showdown was just quite smart and quick for me.

Because it's a bit out of the blue, that Bond would be able to do that without seemingly looking around or us seeing him spot the lever.

Because a Buzz saw is much more realistic then a Laser. With something like a very sharp piece of Metal used for cutting Wood, just think of the damage it would do to Human Flesh.

Yes that was in the novel version, but it all still smacks of a magician's trick and Edgar Allan Poe's short story 'The Pit and the Pendulum' of course.

I hadn't thought of that. Let me do a poll of those who had their "man parts" violated via evisceration by a buzz saw vs. those who had the deed done by a laser to see who sustained more damage. I'll report back to the group with the results. :))

Many, many, many years ago I saw Moonraker for the first time. I think I was about 10 years old and it was the 2nd Bond movie I watched. During the PTS I decided: THIS IS AMAZING!!! Falling out of an airplane without a parachute, fighting for one in mid air, etc. GREAT!!

While totally inadvertent, I enjoy his escape after the Japanese agents have taken Bond captive in LTK. He's dead to rights, Fallon's about to drug him, and then BOOM.

Plus, his startled reaction when he wakes up at Sanchez' house and has no freaking clue where he is for a moment is a very rare moment where Bond isn't in control of the situation. And you have to feel for the guy, waking up in an unfamiliar room dressed in unfamiliar clothes and the first thing you witness is that damn fish with a human's face.
