    Actually, I'm 38, Chris.

BL, I made that decision years ago when it seemed that blood and guts were used as a substitute for action, nudity replaced drama to draw audiences, and foul language and potty humor became a crutch for poor/unimaginative writing. From my perspective, Films have gone further down the spiral, following what's left of society today. I watch movies to escape reality, not experience it.

Now, I don't look down on anyone who chooses to view R rated films, that is their decision. But, I just saw too many that were offensive to me and I decided to draw a line. And, I've seen some that were cleaned up, like the Matrix Trilogy and others. I just don't feel it is entertaining to watch blood soaked gore fests, or listen to language I find offensive, or watching other people having sex.

I'm a big fan of what isn't seen, but is suggested in a film. For instance, if a man and woman are going to have sex, I'd much rather see the looks on their faces, read their intentions, see them drop onto the bed, and then cut away, than to have a three minute sex scene. I feel that is where the artistry lies in film, that is where I truly enjoy a film, when I'm really carried away. Not when I'm shown everything, but when I get to fill in the blanks, sort of.

Anyway, that was a bit drawn out, wasn't it? Sorry. Does that count as another rant? I really am just here to entertain Chrisisall, anyway. :))

I'll be 48 in a couple of months and don't watch R Rated films either, for the reasons you state! Amen, brother!

Just one more thing, if I may - I have seen and heard things in some Rated PG-13 movies that are more offensive than things that have appeared in some Rated R movies. So I'm not so sure that merely drawing the line at Rated R films really gets you where you want to go and, again, there are some fine Rated R films that you are overlooking. Sorry to be a pain about this issue. I'll let it go now.

You aren't bothering me, but I too will let it go after this. Don't want the mods getting irritated with me. :D

I agree, there are PG-13 movies which should be R. The MPAA has proven to be unreliable at times. Therefore, I am very careful, and selective, and not afraid to walkout of a movie I feel has gone too far. Like we did with Transformers 3. (For the Profanity, primarily)

And, if I see a film that looks interesting but is Rated R, I have no problem waiting for it on TV. I've seen films like Double Jeopardy, The Matrix, Aliens, Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide and others this way without feeling like the movie is missing a thing. My wife and two kids look at me with pride and respect as we discuss our choices for entertainment as a family. So, no, I'm not deprived at all.
Beg your pardon, forgot to knock...

Rogue... I PM'ed you... I agree with you 100%... the MPAA is messed up with it's ratings... there are some PG films (the few left) I wouldn't see either. There are lots I wouldn't see on TV either, just because some are just inappropriate!

    That's all!

Hitchcock knew this. That's one reasons why Psycho was great, but all the sequels are cheap shockers.
Dan bleeding out that dude in QOS was particularly disgusting as I do NOT believe Bond films are there to make you queasy.

Awww shucks, that's just plain nice of you to say, even though it ain't so. ;)

I love Hitchcock! North by Northwest is one of the best movies ever! The silence before the crop duster chases him. Such suspense with no action, dialogue, or anything! What a master!

Although it's important to note that Hitchcock often implied sex and violence offscreen because he couldn't show it on screen. The Hays code was still in effect. He was also one for pushing what was allowed - the famous continuous kiss between Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman was cleverly directed so they parted their lips every two-and-a-half seconds (only three seconds were allowed) and Psycho features the first ever shot of a toilet bowl in the movies. By the time Marnie (starring Sean Connery) came along, Hitchcock pushed for a very graphic (for the time) rape scene, against the wishes of both the screenwriter and the studio.
