I wouldn't say she was an insult to blacks or to females. The fact that was an idiot didn't have anything to do with her race or gender - she was just stupid! Now the CIA is another story -they should feel insulted!
Rosie Carver was an insult to blacks, females & the CIA.
Rosie Carver is not particularly bright, she's also inexperienced and rather out of her depth. This makes her vulnerable, and that's the part I warm to. When Bond asks her to make her choice she is clearly frightened, then panics and runs, which is what most of us would likely do faced with a similar situation.

Anyone else absolutely love the scene where Baron Samedi comes up from the ground, and does the really slow smile and laughs, to which bond realizes it's not another fake Samedi? So many fond memories of that scene -{
Yes, I love the whole graveyard ending. And Moore looks good in a black roll-neck with that .44 Magnum.
Yes, he looked every inch the British secret agent there. He never looked better in the role - the short military style haircut was a bonus, too, of course!

It's funny. I went through a phase of not caring much for LIVE & LET DIE. Perhaps I was just being pretentious. Now I love it. There's a lot to recommend it. Moore looks great, not just in the aforementioned commando gear but also in his sleek New York attire. Love the black coat. He hits the ground running in the role. The villains are an interesting array, being both amusing & dangerous. The locations are pleasingly colourful & the voodoo element gives it all a nice macabre feel. Also the comedy's not allowed to run riot. True, J.W. Pepper comes close, but his "What the f...!?" exclamation to the flying speedboat always makes me chuckle. As does the cabbie's cheery greeting of "Hello, Jim!". The climactic train slug-out with Tee Hee's brill too, as of course is the poster. All round great stuff.
I particularly like the way ( I know that it's not for real ) how the shot hits the guy and it not only puts him down but sideways back into the coffin.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I love Live and Let die...the only thing that irritates me is criticism of J.W. Pepper who I find hilarious in this film..because he always gets compared to Smokey & the Bandit a movie that came out 4 years later.
I like Pepper and think he serves the film well in terms of fun and silliness. Along with making the most ill-witted character a bigoted white male, which helps quell any criticism of racism.
Now his appearance in TMWTGG however...
I like the Voodoo elements of the film, and how they are interjected into the plot. The bayou makes an unexpectedly good Bond location. The only thing I didn't like was Big/Kanaga getting blown up by that device that was introduced in the last 10 minutes of the film. The effect just didn't hold up well and it seemed like they used that gag so that Moore could get the inflated ego quip inside the film.

Sorry, but I don't find Pepper to be funny at all. In fact, he is more irritating than amusing, and I feel he hurts the film rather than helps it.

) Believe it or not, it's starting to crack. (That's what happens to old folks!)
I love LALD and see it as a landmark Bond film along with Goldfinger, Casino Royale 06, Goldeneye and TSWLM
it was the first Bond I saw at the cinema and Baron Samedi and Tee Hee gave me nightmares as a kid, and I have seen a clip somewhere of the guy doing the stunt of jumping across the backs of the Crocodiles/ alligators, it took a few takes and was done using real animals

I don't think that I am getting old enough to ever appreciate DAF

Great film
IMO they brought him back because the audience loved him so much in LALD.
Same with Jaws, Kiel was on his peak after TSWLM.
Oddly as mentioned earlier, they used a similar character (JWP) later in the Smokey and the Bandit flicks where the role was even made more important.
