The song was started during QoS, and fragments can be heard in the score, but not completed/recorded till afterwards.
My guess would be that once Arnold was told he wouldn't be writing the title theme he stopped working on it till the Bassey album, using the elements he already had during the score.

I liked the idea as in the look of the skyscraper assassination scene (not the morality of it, though), it was all neon and Pearl and Dean 1960s advertising. Personally I wasn't taken by the directing of it however.

    Nicely put NP.

The two black shadows fighting left me a bit bewildered tbh.

As for No Good about Goodbyes I loved it so much I have it on my Bond playlist. One of Arnolds best efforts and it was ignored.

Where should it go in the rotation - After Crawl End Crawl and before Grand Bazaar Istanbul?

In the weekend's Sunday Times Culture Diary piece it quoted Michael Wilson saying that five directors had turned down Bond 24 already, and Diary positted that after the success of SF Bond 24 was a poisoned chalice for a new director. Wilson also said they might be having to go for an unknown.

Here's a pic of my brother with the future M, when Ralph did an acting masterclass to raise money for the Lost Theatre in London. My brother was playing Hamlet at the time.

One out of the box idea is for Ralph Fiennes to direct it. His adaptation of Coriolanus has 94% on rotton tomatoes, and he already knows the actors.

Might be time to get Campbell on speed dial...we could do worse...

Do you have a link to this story? It's ten days later and I can't find a reference to it anywhereon the Internet. I would think that Michael Wilson admitting that five directors had turned down Bond 24 (which isn't like EON to do) would be big news. My guess is that EON's going to hold out for a big name and no big name director is going to agree to Bond 24 before he sees a finshed script. All the indications are that Logan is still several months away from wrapping up the script.

It was announced last week that Martin Campbell will be directing the thirteen episode TV remake of Blake's 7. I imagine that will keep him occupied for the next twelve months. That does not rule him out If they are planning to release Bond 24 in 2015/16.

Film 24 and 25 back-to-back with Nolan at the helm. I'd like that...

Casino Royale (2006) is my favorite Bond film, but Campbell is 70 and I'm afraid he's too old. Campbell was the oldest Bond director ever when he made CR. Mendes remarked how demanding Skyfall was and he's in his forties.

Nolan is busy with Interstellar until autumn 2014, which is when Bond 24 should be released (but probably won't be :# )

I can't see them sticking to an autumn 2014 release now but you never know.

How about Tarantino? Realistically I don't think it'll ever happen but he's only got Kill Bill: Vol. 3 in development and there isn't a date for that either. I think he'd make a very interesting Bond film.

I think Tarantino punched his ticket as having no chance to ever do a Bond film with his remarks prior to the filming of CR.
EON was able to trust Mendes and Mendes apparently has the type of personality that he could work with EON...Tarantino is a little too much of a wild hare for EON.

    Nicholas Winding Refn

Would make a Great Bond Film director. He's a little Bit crazy but Drive is a classic and the trailers of Only God Forgives look epic. He has a keen eye for a great shot (even though he's coloured blind).

"My informant is very plain" - Martin Campbell is directing the new Blakes Seven series of 13 x 1 hour episodes
being made by Freemantle media. (Are they Australian?) they distribute old TV shows like The Sweeney and Minder.

He likes restarting films like Goldeneye and Casino Royale with new Bonds.
(and also fight scenes in toilets! both films have them.)

What about Stuart Baird(he was the editor on Casino Royale and Skyfall. Also he has done some directing)?

I think that he would be a good choice since he has worked on action films before with Excutive Decision and US Marshals, and given his editing background likely has a good understanding of what works in film and what does not.

According to Baz Bamigboye of the Mail, Christopher Nolan has been approached to direct Bond 24. Apparently, it's early days and the talks are informal. Nolan is currently working on his next big film Interstellar, which is due for release in November 2014.

Very Interesting Moore Than I know many have hoped that C Nolan would get a shot at a Bond film.

I'm not sure Nicholas Winding Refn would be good for Bond. And, even if offered, I'm not he is the kind of director that would want to do it anyway.

Drive is one of my favourite films ever and the Only God Forgives trailer where the Chinese guy is chasing after an assassin is brilliant, however I've seen another trailer where Kristin Scott Thomas is talking about her on screen son's big d*ck and I thought that was a bit weird. I'm not sure whether Only God Forgives will be to Drive what I think Seven Psychopaths was to In Bruges.

That's Refn style all of his films are a bit left field, watch his past films to see that. His style is special a cross between Kubrick and Scorcese would be wonderful for the next Bond film. I agree he might not want to do it but it be a nice change of pace.

I've always thought Nolan could deliver a good Bond film--he can certainly handle big action scenes--and it looks like the producers are leaning more toward giving directors some control. . .so long story short: let's hope there's some truth to this.

Nolan is busy with Interstellar, so I think Matthew Vaughn should get the next one since he got the best out of DC in Layercake, whereas Nolan may want to work with a new Bond.

Great idea. Then we could have Bond 24 in 2016 and Bond 25 the following year.

Vaughn is supposed to start filming "The Secret Service" at the end of this year.

I've always though Steven Soderburgh could make a good Bond director. He was keen to do "The Man From Uncle" last year until it fell through. Of course, he's not British, but neither was Marc Foster. Er, wait a minute.

With Daniel Craig returning to play anti-Bond in another John Logan script about deconstruction, it doesn't matter who directs.

However, if a pro-Bond approach with a pro-Bond actor were to be engaged, I would like to see Brad Bird write and direct. He would tell a straightforward story. He wouldn't need any help from the Broccolis'. He has no feminist agenda or value judgements to espouse. His Mission Impossible 4 Ghost Protocol had action and suspense that shamed the last four Bond films.
The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.

I thought MI:4 was very one dimensional....I enjoyed it the first time I saw it but found myself bored when I saw it a second time...Brad Bird needs to stick to cartoons...
