I doubt He'll be returning but I really think Andrew Scott
makes a brilliant Moriarty. His breakdown on the hospital
roof as he threatens Sherlock while having a nervous
    breakdown, was some stunning acting. -{

I love this show, pity the Americans have to copy it, instead of making something original.
Anyway, the acting is top-notch, the script is suberb and the characters awesome.
    Love Martin Freeman and Benedict.
Andrew Scott as Moriaty was a neat idea and he did grow on me. At first I pictured him as an evil druggee version of Graham Norton but I started to like him.
Glad that Season Three is coming, the Season Two Finale episode was done so well and I really want to see how they deal with it in the next episode.

I don't get Moriaty, from the original stories.

I've read the first two novellas. And Adventures of SH.

And Moriaty is in none of them. I thought he had a longer role, more recurrent. How many tales is he actually in?

The character of Moriarty as Holmes's greatest enemy was introduced primarily as a narrative device to enable Conan Doyle to kill off Sherlock Holmes, and only featured directly in two of the Sherlock Holmes stories. However, in more recent derivative work he is often given a greater prominence and treated as Holmes's primary antagonist.

To be honest NP, I have tried to read "A Study in Scarlet " sadly for my Taste it's
so slow and Old Fashioned ( In its writing style ) that I've never read a full Sherlock
    Holmes Book. :(

Although I do watch anything with the character in it, from the Old Hammer "Hound of the Baskervilles"
Through the J Brett series to Sherlock and Elementary ( Only the Pilot episode, so far ).
In many ways I suppose Moriaty is Like Blofeld as Many people think he's in Many stories.

The Hammer Hound of the Baskevilles is my favourite Holmes film. So atmospheric with the added bonus of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing together.

It's odd, because Study in Scarlet is much better in the Sherlock series and brilliantly riffs on the novella.

However, you should try the short story Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, if you don't like one there's another. But true, they are a tough read at first, with Holmes' new visitor offloading a lot of info about the case, 2-3 pages, while H & W sit and listen. But there are some nice sinister tales in it, esp as the book goes on. Initially they are a bit underwhelming. And Irene Adler only appears in one story (and she's not in the buff! :( )

These ones are the best in that book: "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle", "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" and
"The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb". Though the one about the Man With The Twisted Lip is interesting, quirky.

But you also gradually get into the world that Conan Doyle creates, there is a warmth to it, like settling down with a glass of port.

    Benedict Cumberbatch confirms Sherlock series 4. -{ -{ -{

Benedict Cumberbatch confirms Sherlock series 4 From The Radio Times.
Cumberbatch says he and co-star Martin Freeman have signed up for a further run of the BBC1 detective drama - and hints at the possibility of even more to come
In arguably the biggest (Sherlock) news of the century, Benedict Cumberbatch has announced that he and co-star Martin Freeman have signed up to make a fourth season of the BBC1 detective drama.

"We've agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that," revealed Cumberbatch at the South Bank Show Awards this afternoon.

"All I know at the moment is I'm doing these three [episodes of the upcoming series] and another three."

The star added that he would like to see the show continue beyond a fourth series but admitted it would depend on whether he, Freeman and co-creator Steven Moffat could find the time to do it.

"It just depends on Martin and I's availability, how long we can keep it going. It depends on Steven's ability. I'd love to keep it going."

Moffat is also showrunner on Doctor Who, while both Cumberbatch and Freeman are rising Hollywood stars. Freeman is Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's ongoing Hobbit trilogy and Cumberbatch – as well as voicing characters in the same movies – is about to hit cinema screens as the enigmatic villain of Star Trek sequel Into Darkness.

Filming of Sherlock season three begins on Monday (18 March) with the series expected to air in the autumn.

Does anyone know the Origional name for Sherlock Holmes ?
I was only half listening to a Radio comedy quiz BBCR Extra.
Were a contestant said that Sheraden Hacker had been Conan
Doyle's first name for the character.
I've tried the BBC i player but can't find it, so was wondering
if anyone knew the correct name ?
