I'd like to see Barry Sloane from Revenge as the next 007. He's English and has an incredible screen presence. Very Bondesque. The other characters make jokes about him being James Bond too :P I also think that Matt Bomer definitely has the Bond look but he's American :#

I've just been reminded of Bond's compulsory retirement at the age of 45 in Fleming's novels, thanks to the person who bumped this thread:

    http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/30869/should-the-film-and-literary-bond-ever-be-one/

I would like to see Bond actors make their debut as Bond in their early thirties and retire from the role no later than the age of 45. Daniel Craig would be 45 this year, which is the literary Bond's retirement age (or rather, the literary 00 agent's mandated retirement age).

I just don't get Fassbender for some reason ?:)

Have you see the newest X Men movie where Fassbender plays the young Magneto? He gives a very Bondesque performance in it. He needs to lay off the cigarettes though.

I've seen bits off it. I suppose it's just like some people were wary about Craig. I've got my heart set in someone else so for any other actor I'm just like meh :p . I also wouldn't mind James Purefoy who lost out to Craig

Purefoy's 48 now. He'll be in his 50s by the time Craig hangs it up, and there's probably no way they'll cast someone in their 50s in the James Bond role.

And Jason Statham? No. He just doesn't have what it takes. He's a good action hero, but there's no way he's James Bond.

Just cruising around IMDB. Came up with the perfect next Bond. Matt Bomer. He's on USA's White Collar series now and definitely has the panache and toughness to pull it off.

I know, I know he's american. But he looks the part and I think he could do a great job!

Statham would be OK but would he need to do an accent for the role?

His usual one may not be what's required :)

I agree, I would just worry about the accent. If it's not perfect it could ruin it

I'm still pushing for this guy... Matt Bomer.

    normal_002.jpg

He looks the part. He's 6 feet tall, DARK HAIRED, and he has shown himself a natural at suave sophistication and charm(something sorely lacking from the role currently, IMO). He's done action, he's done serious, he's done heart-rending...He'd be great! Watch him on White Collar, I think you'll agree.

Yes, he's American. Texan actually. Yes, he's gay. To both of those I say who cares. His native Texan tongue doesn't interfere with his role as ultra cool Neal Caffery, He has shown the ability to erase it. As to his sexuality, It hasn't stopped him from doing multiple scenes playing a straight role with female love interests and pulling it off.

I'd rather have a British actor do it.

If there are more than one equally qualified actor for the role who can play and look the part, I'd rather they picked the one who is British. James Bond is a British institution, and I believe that the producers should be using it to promote the British film industry. Choosing British actors to play a British agent makes perfect sense to me.

It's not that I won't accept actors of other nationalities. If there are no British actors that fit the bill, then I'm happy for other actors to step up to the role, whatever their nationality, so long as they can look and play the part. But I'd like preference to be given to British actors.

I don't think that the fact he's gay should have anything to do with it. I am, however, with those who would prefer a British actor for the role. That being said, if it's American actor who is an unknown and he can speak with an impeccable British accent, I think it couild work.

I don't think his sexuality should be a problem either, but you know some would reject him just based on that.

As to his nationality, wasn't Lazenby Australian? And there are plenty on this sight who love him and wish he had done more movies. There is a thread regarding Bonds we wish had done more movies and I saw his name mentioned quite often. I don't think nationality should be a factor. There are lots of Brits who play Americans without accent problems(Ewan McGregor come to mind), why can't the reverse be true?

All I know is the more we watch him as Caffery in White Collar, the more my wife and I see him doing all the stuff Bond does. Quick witted escapes, parachuting off NY skyscrapers, outwitting baddies with dialog, displaying in depth knowledge of obscure topics, getting physical when needed, even proficiency with firearms. Although that isn't often, since Neal Caffery is on probation working with the FBI and wears a tracking anklet, the times I've seen him with one he looks natural. B-)

I don't believe his sexuality should be a concern either....but in reality it will be...that's why actors still tend to 'hide' their sexuality if they are not heterosexual.

I still say he has no chance though...

Sorry, meant he looks like a natural with firearms. ;%

You have to watch the show to understand that part. Matt Bomer's character is working with the FBI as a consultant. He's very clever at getting around the anklet to accomplish what he needs to do. Often, Caffery uses his cat burglar/con man skills to get things done the FBI can't.

Realistically, Sir Miles, I know you're right. It probably won't happen. But he'd be so great!

I prefer if they get a reasonably unknown person to play Bond. Like come on, after Die Another Day who suggested Daniel Craig to be the next 007. My brother reckons they should kill the series once DC has had his turn.
But out of thee people already mentioned, Ewan McGregor, Karl Urban, Benedict Cumberbacht and Henry Cavill are my favourites.

I would also like to mention Ioan Gruffund, who you might remember as Hornblower and Dr Reed Richards in Fantastic Four. He is welsh, a good actor, handsome and I read somewhere that he would like to play 007.
He is 39. The only problem is that he is a little skinny.

Wasn't he considered around the same time as DC? I seem to remember his name in the rumor mill as a possibility to replace Broz.

Ioan Gruffund has been quoted in interviews saying he would like to play 007. He was one of the names rumoured to be in the running for the role of Bond around 2005. He claimed to have had a meeting with Barbara Broccoli.

I think any of the people consider back in 2005 will not get the role they will want to move on to other people if they didn't get the role then they are not going to get it when they are older

    I don't agree.
Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton were all considered before they came Bond.
