I was answering a previous thread on CCBB and was staggered to read
that the agents i have communecated with havnt seen this Flemming master piece,
wether due to age or geographical location i dont know but there are parralels in CCBB
and Bond films can we have a simple yes /no to having seen /not seen this film

It was a long time ago But Yes I've seen it several times and
have read the book. As far as I know Fleming wrote it for
his son.

There was an interesting radio play on BBC Radio 4 in January 2006 entitled 'From Father with Love' which explained the background to the writing of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Fleming was recouperating from his April 1961 heart attack, I think and the radio play really showed a softer side to Fleming, writing a bedtime story for his young son, the tragic Caspar Fleming.

Having said all that, I've yet to see the film CCBB in full - seen parts of it and own it on DVD, also haven't read the book although I got it last year. I must correct these oversights, but I don't watch many films, so not so strange for me, really!

The book isn't like the film in terms of plot. I don't know whether the film makers decided to scrap the smugglers plot because they thought it wasn't suitable for children but I do think the plot in the film works a lot better than the plot in the book would've done

As part of a Q n A on twitter last night, Dick Van Dyke was asked if he would play a bad guy in a Bond film and said that he was offered the role after Connery left. I'm sure it was just a joke but thought it was funny to imagine what OHMSS would've been like if it was Van Dyke and not Lazenby

We never hsad them here, dam shame ,cant rely on the weather,
its about one of the few American things that never got of the ground
but hope you enjoyed the film,Benny Hill was just fab

I quite liked the film - it gets unjustly derided by many in my opinion

My favorite movie as a kid & still love it. Gert Frobe, Desmond LLewellyn, have the soundtrack on LP & CD, heck I have the Broadway show soundtrack. Its epic & absurd. Saw in 70mm in L.A. it looked amazing even with the colors faded almost to Black & White.

It's on this weekend again in the UK. Jeez, a very long film, takes a real while to get going and the car's entrance is long delayed. Like Thoroughly Modern Millie in the same year, or even OHMSS a year later, it's not succinct. Still, the Child Catcher is wonderful Flemingesque villainy, even he was created by Roald Dahl.
