  I think Pierce is a really good actor - and he said something about acting on an American talk show that so cut through the "luvvie" bullshit that so many thesps come out with. "If you’re not feeling the emotion at that exact moment on the set..." he said, "...you PRETEND."

  That reminds me of the old story from "Marathon Man" when Dustin Hoffman was apparently not eating or sleeping for days on end in order to behave more dishevelled and bothered and Laurence Olivier turned to him one day and said "Next time, old chap, you should try acting."

  Three really great Pierce bits:
  
  "Tomorrow Never Dies" - the quiet moment where he's waiting in the hotel room for Paris to arrive - jacket off, drink ready, gun ready... and a look of utter dejection and revulsion at what he's having to do.
  
  "TND": At Carver's party, when the geezer says, "Mr Bond, there's a telephone call for you", and Pierce gives him a look of, "Christ, is that REALLY the best you could come up with? I can't even be bothered PRETENDING I believe you!".
  
  "Die Another Day": When he tells the hotel manager he's been "Just surviving... just surviving..." and actually admitting to himself that he nearly died.
  
  These are subtle things that tell us so much about the character.
