Fassbender isn't a huge "star". He's a well regarded actor who gets leading roles but isn't really expected to carry a film at the box office. I'm guessing if Craig chooses not to do Bond 25, EON would reach out to Fassbender as he is a known and respected name who could step right in and have instant credibility as Bond. Fassbender as Bond is not a hard sell. If Craig opts to do Bond 25, IMO EON will look to someone younger and less known to be the next Bond. My preference is for Craig to stick around for 25...but if he chooses to hang up the tux after 24, Fassbender would be my choice to pick up the PPK.

Has Daniel not already signed a contract along with Sam Mendes to do 25 already?. And all though he won't have made as many films as Sir Roger he will be the longest serving bond.

I was under the impression that Craig was under contract to do two more: 24 and 25. Not sure about Mendes. But there seems to be some who think not. Sometimes things get reported in the media as contracts, but are really agreements in principle that are not legally binding. Anyone who clearly remembers, please chime in.

I also read Bond 25 signed on etc and hope its true. I think two more from DC will be perfect as long as they are not duds

My point was that he is too famous to play Bond now. We want people to talk about going to see the new Bond, not the new Fassbender movie. He is also too expensive to hire by now.

So when someone goes to see the new X-Men movie they call it "the new Fassbender movie"? No, they call it the new X-Men movie, because the characters are well known, the franchise is well known, it's been around for a number of years... Now, take X-Men, quadruple it and you're still not near the iconic 007.

If Fassbender was cast as Bond, no one would go to see "the new Fassbender movie", they would go to see the new Bond movie, IMO.

You may be right. Fassbender isn't on the same level of fame as Tom Cruise, Jonny Depp etc. of whom this applies more. But he is better known than earlier Bonds (other than Roger Moore?) were when they got hired. Anyway he is most likely too expensive by now.

He might be expensive but if it's a role he wants I'm sure a deal
Could be worked out ;) and after all Daniel isn't exactly doing it
    For minimum wage ! :))

Well ... Fassbbenderthe level of fame and fortune is perhaps mid-level? Not very, but pretty high?

I'm guessing the current EON braintrust, Barbara and Michael are a bit different when it comes to paying actors. They appear to have been relatively generous with Craig unlike Cubby, who by all accounts was a wonderful man but very old school when it came to paying his lead actor. On the other hand, credit to Craig for understanding and being realistic about his standing in the movie star universe and not being overly demanding in his salary. Even Tom Cruise has lowered his typical salary so that the budgets of the films he makes now are not eaten up by his salary alone.

I mean, just the facts. He is in a popular franchise and he doesn't seem to steal the show. I don't think being in another popular franchise would do him any harm. As for being too expensive, I don't think so. If he's interested his agent can negotiate a deal that satisfies everyone. Rumour has it Clive Owen asked for too much. He was hot back in the mid 00s, everybody was talking about what a fantastic Bond he would be, and where is he now? Craig did the right move.

I love watching Fassbender in films however if people have concerns about DC looking old (which seems to be the case) then I can't see Fassbender fair much better as to me he seems to have aged pretty fast over the last few years :D

I actually think that the extremely fit, lean, muscular body in combination with a more aged, weathered face of Craig works very well for the modern Bond. In "Skyfall" Craig's more weathered look brought a convincing reality to the toll that being a "00" brings (along with the heavy drinking, etc). So Fassbender aging doesn't concern me at all as long as he doesn't get fat and out of shape.

Also he has a terrific name, Fassbender is only one step away from Mindbender ! :D
If only he was a Doctor as well.

Fassbender would make a great villain per say. He's got that evil thing about him.

While Craig didn't fit the traditional Bond image, he did look tough. Dan Stevens has none of that.

    That was surprising :o
While your suggestion doesn't sound ridiculous anymore, I'm still not convinced.

Wait'll you see the whole movie. He's a revelation. Nails the action and charisma stuff, and he'll be 37 or 38 by the time Craig hangs it up. Pair it with this and I think Stevens is a contender.

I think Stevens fits dark hair better than Craig, but Craig was always more masculine with a more angular feautures and a deeper voice.

Well, we (and Eon) wouldn't want them to replicate Daniel Craig in any event. But I bet they keep him blonde in the next version. But so far you have people who saw The Guest saying he'd be great, and people who haven't seen The Guest saying he's a bad fit, so... :))

Now that Eon have broken the blonde taboo and it hasn't had any detrimental effect on the character ( quite the opposite) the world is their oyster with the next actor.

I can see Dan Stevens as a contender. He's certainly changed his appearance since his 'Downton' days that's for sure. I haven't seen 'The Guest' but it looked action packed.

I do think Dan Stevens looks better blonde though.

But James Bond is really dark haired (in the books and most of the movies) They kept Craig's natural hair colour because black hair doesn't suit him very well. It worked, mostly because Craig is rugged and masculine and plays Bond so well. Stevens looks fine With black hair so I think he should dye his hair if he ever gets cast as Bond.
