George Lazenby

I think george Lazenby is a good bloke , I think he is really honest about his time as james bond and he must have alot of regrets. And at the time sean connery was a big act to follow I think most people would have had a hard time.ive watched interviews of him on YouTube and you can see from these that he must be kicking him self.he was young and nieve but the British public was too and so was sean connery to a certain extent as even he didn't think the bond films would last this long.ohmss is a fantastic film and I think George did a fantastic job ! Its one of the best and George should be proud.

    I don't blame Lazenby for anything. He was a young guy who got a big break and got over excited and then took some bad advice from someone with years more experience in the business than him. OHMSS will always rank highly to me and it's a shame Lazenby didn't do more.

    I have always loved OHMSS and one of the reasons is George Lazenby. He pulled off a great part for someone who wasn't a trained actor. For me he was more like Bond than Connery. Throughout OHMSS he looks like he doesn't give two-shits about anyone but himself. He's a spy living a privileged life and enjoys life's pleasures. He looks as tough as boots and not afraid of anything. The pre-title fight seen on the beach has always been one of my favourites and the ending is legendary. Another great shame is that director Peter Hunt didn't stay on to direct DAF. I think with him and Lazenby, DAF could have been the first great revenge Bond film (that LTK & QoS both were.) Just close your eyes and imagine the pre-title seen of DAF when Bond throws Blofeld into the mud bath, but with Lazenby saying the great line, "Welcome to hell Blofeld."

    I too love OHMSS and think Lazenby did a terrific job. -{
    Although even he admits, he did act the "Diva" at times.
    Pitty he didn't get to do a few more. I do think he would
    of improved as an Actor.

    George Lazenby from a physical standpoint was absolutely fine. But he was too inexperienced an actor, and for the most part in On Her Majesty's Secret Service it shows. He also lacked charisma. But I do admire his effort/cojones in getting the role in the first place. No doubt Lazenby would have improved with more films but I am rather happy the way things turned out. :D

    I love George Lazenby in his standout performance in the best James Bond film by a country mile. A truly great and Fleming faithful film adaptation. It's at No. 1 on my list and it always will be. -{

    George did a fine job as Bond. I can never understand why people think he wasn't a good actor.
    I think his inexperience was a bonus, he brought a raw edge to Bond with a touch of innocence and vulnerability which was refreshing highlighted in the scene when he's pursued by the bad guys and
    can see no way out until Tracy appears out of nowhere to rescue him. OHMSS is a brilliant film
    and would stand alone as a fine boy's own adventure even if it wasn't a Bond film. I had the pleasure
    of seeing it on the big screen ten years ago and it was utterly breathtaking. The ski scenes were terrific and I don't think they've ever been bettered. I wish George had done a
    few more Bonds. I love seeing his interviews on various DVDs. He comes across as a genuine gentleman
    who made a big mistake. He must rank just behind Sir Rog as an ambassador for Bond as he seems to
    hold an admiration for Bond after all these years. Long live OHMSS and, Mr Lazenby, I salute you.

    Bought OHMSS just a few hours ago, looking forward to watching it tonight with a bag of Salt and Vinegar chips. George is terrific in the film. Love him, use to hate him, but the film grew on me, now its in the top 5.

    Check out the 1975 movie The Man From Hong Kong in which George plays the villain

    He's involved in some great fight scenes with Jimmy Wang Yu (who replaced Bruce Lee in the project after Bruce's death)

    At one stage in the final fight George's clothes caught fire for real and filming continued much to his displeasure

    Story of Lazenby's actual life is really interesting for those who are fans definitely look into his life story.

    He went from being on top of the world as Europe's top model to becoming James Bond and then 4-5 years later he had to move back to Australia and move in with his mother because he was dirt poor

    He then ultimately turned his life around, made his money back and became a success story. The Bond thing is something I feel haunts him though he never really had a chance to show how he would be as Bond outside of OHMSS. He did a few commercials and some episodes on TV where he appeared as a "Bond like character" but I think he must hate himself for not doing 1-2 after OHMSS

    Someone said that Lazenby reminds them of the ambassador for Bond along with Sir Roger and I totally agree with that. Roger and George are the only two Bond's who go around and meet the Bond fans and they're the only two who seem to be genuine fans of the character and series

    My only complaint is that George has seemingly forgot his roots. I'd love for him to be doing the autograph circuit here in Australia and doing his best to help Australian film and television. He would get so much work here if he wanted it since he's probably going to go down in history as the only Australian to actually play Bond

    I agree on George's down-to-earth nature, and as an ambassador to Bond, only Sir Roger is above him. Like Dalton after him, he read his source material in OHMSS. -{

    IMO he did a great job. He was able to pull off being tough in the fight scenes, witty ("a slight stiffness coming on" :)) ), scared when he's escaping Piz Gloria, vulnerable in the closing scenes, and more.

    And OHMSS is a fantastic film, for me the perfect blend of all the best elements in the series: strong and believable storyline, the most menacing villain, probably the most realistic and appealing heroine, no overemphasising on gadgets, great fights and stunts not too OTT.

    I rather enjoyed Lazenby myself, and OHMSS is one of the top Bond films in my opinion. But Lazenby "more like Bond than Connery"? Okay, now we're getting carried away! :))

    I love George Lazenby and OHMSS, I wish George played in more films. I think that the idea with Sean coming back in DAF was terrible - this is the film I like less and with Lazenby it would have been incredible.
    Also Lazenby should be appreciated because he wasn't an actor but he can act really good. OHMSS is a good film, because Bond in it is like the one created by Fleming. Lazenby can show the character of Bond, but still is the agent who loves women (the scenes with visiting girl in mountains, with the same words to each one... :) Good, and it shows that Lazenby can act [remember it's not the same as being an actor])
    I really regret that Laznby played in only one film, also that Dalton played in only two. I think that best actors who played Bond are the most unappreciated. They both could show the agent created by Fleming, they both look good, and they both were unlucky and has made the wrong decision.
    In any case I think that George Lazenby was very unlucky, but he has lots of fans who know he was the real, brilliant James Bond, 007. We are with him. OHMSS one of best Bond films.

    News regarding George Lazenby/On Her Majesty's Secret Service. According to Austrian newspaper der Standard, Piz Gloria is about to receive a facelift. The start of the summer hiking/climbing season will see the grand opening of 'Bond World', with a Bond cinema, 400 square metres of multimedia area with interactive elements and an option to even have your face copied into the famous ski chases of 'OHMSS'. Finally, the Bond actors will unite on the observation deck/helipad - as waxworks. 'Bond World' at the Piz Gloria summit station is set to open on the 28th June, and in the real-life presence of George Lazenby, who returns for this event.

    In a way, I have to agree with lazenby and his agent that Bond was doomed for the 70's. If you look at the movie DAF and most of the Moore movies, it is a miracle in my eyes that the series are still alive today. OHMSS was a temporarily goodbye of the literary Bond and with fleming dead, you could understand what he was aiming at. It wasn't until 1987 when the true focus was back again, at least temporarily.

    All in all, OHMSS remains in my top 3 Bond movies, simply because it follows the perfect Fleming novel. Lazenby did a good job in the key scenes: death of Tracy, proposal of Tracy, the action scenes... A great movie.

    You make a really good point here.Judged with 20x20 hindsight his decision looks like a really Dumb move, but at the time it may not have been that off base. I certainly parted company with the Movies until Dalton came into the picture, however they managed to be very commercially successful films without me. :007)

    yeah taste is a strange thing isnt it? Apparently Jaws was made an ally to Bond, due that an 8 year old wrote the director how much he liked Jaws, but why wasnt he a friend of Bond?

    A. why does a director read letters of 8 year olds
    B. why does he even listen to their advice?

    But.....: Moonraker was one of the most succesful Bond movies ever! ind you, I like Moonraker as a guilty pleasure, but it is of course rediculous and a far cry from OHMSS or FRWL as a movie. But money talks, especially in Hollywood.

    The Lazenby/Connery Bond was indeed dead after OHMSS. But the character Bond lived on... Lazenby misinterpreted the power of the character, but was correct about the fact that true spy movies where a has been, also of course because there was no real Fleming material left to be filmed.
