Ah yes, the legendary 007 wit, or at least half of it.

Very cool, David! So glad that you were able to meet him. Any details on the Levi's he was wearing? Did they look like their standard line? Or perhaps one of his, now, older pairs from Capital E? Otherwise I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Made & Crafted. I have a couple pairs and they're great jeans.

Great story Mantis, congrats. Lucky man. But I am little annoyed by the fact that DC could not take a second, to take that picture you. I get the privacy thing, but it goes with the job. How hard would it have been to make a fan happy. Sorry that's me just venting.

Absolutely agree David re the photo and think you played it just the right way, when DC is 'on duty' like at the premiere he worked the crowd for almost 2 hours and was happy to take photos of himself with fans behind the barriers with their cellphones. In TF he was def off duty. I ran into Arnie, literally going round a corner, in Ralf Lauren on Rodeo Drive last year and he was happy to exchange pleasantries but I just didn't feel it was right to ask for a photo.

Looks like the planets aligned for you David, so pleased for you. {[]

I must admit I would not expect a celeb to "co-operate" when out shopping etc so can't blame him.

Should have asked him if he fancied a pint of Guinness at nearby bar lol

On another note - is he technically a US citizen now?? I read his wife now has dual citizenship etc hence does that make him one through marriage?

He was taller than I expected and let me tell you I will never compare my build to him again....the guy looked jacked.
It's funny i had the exact same mental reaction when i met him, i was like "damn, hes really jacked", doesn't he look alot bigger muscle-wise in real life then on screen?

Funny, this reminds me of something that I meant to post in the fitness thread. A friend of mine is training for a fitness competition (like a bodybuilding competition but the contestants aren't as big) and I helped him him by taking his measurements for him as his training partner wasn't there. He's 5'10, 177 pounds and 7% body fat. As soon as he said that I thought "I think that's what Craig is...". And as soon as he took his shirt off then, yep, his physique was near identical to Craig's. Really impressive to see someone in such great shape in real life; seeing how hard he has worked for it gives me more appreciation for what Craig does on top of working 12 hour days on set.

Yes it does for a novice like me :D

    Cheers!

P.S just wish I had your expense account and understanding wife with all kit you have :)) if I told my wife I was just popping into TF in NYC she would have a fit! (ignorance is bliss I find) B-)

You can ask your wife if you can pop into the Tom Ford store in London soon. Appears to be a big store opening down Sloane Street imminently.

I think if you care to re-read Mantis' post again that he didn't intrude on DC's day. In fact quite the opposite, he was polite and non-intrusive. If you are using a translation service, then it probably didn't convey the meeting as accurately as it should.

I guess that if I would be given the chance to meet DC I would not care about the picture, memory is memory... But I would love to tell him that Ian Fleming would be proud of him. Or something like that. Something that would really show how much his work means for people like me and maybe make him think about it for a minute or two.

A truly life changing event, isn't it David? :)
  • ausbondfanausbondfan Posts: 61MI6 Agent
Yeah Mantis went about it the right way. Polite and Respectful and when declined didn't whine at DC or try and convince him otherwise.

Occasionally you'll read about fans being incredibly rude and shoving paper in celebrities faces or taking a photo without permission or worse arguing with said celeb once denied. It's good to see people who respect the celebrities privacy.

What? how is it pathetic? it was a rare opportunity to be able to meet someone he greatly admires.

By the way, interesting tidbit...he buys three of everything he likes..the theory at TF is so he can have ech piece at each one of his homes and he doesn't have to pack as much when he travels from one to another.

Unless he likes to buy a couple of spares in DC's size as collectables.

My wife met him once on a beach in North Wales UK and was chatting to him for ages, she did not know who he was until that evening when we watched Casino Royale.

Now for the plug lol; she has written and published two books, 1. The Adventures of Ginger Bread Wille, 2. The Adventures of Ginger Bread Willie, Fannies Revenge.
Please have a look at her website http://dlbgbw.com/

Great story David, and would make any bond fan's day.
As far as I'm concerned u did it right.... If DC was annoyed he'd have given you both barrels loaded with fbombs so sounds like he just wasn't in the mood.

Each of us have our own principles, and generally most of us wouldn't hassle a celeb in day to day enviro... But we all have our exceptions... Hey I broke my own rules for Jill St John and she even asked her hubby's Robert Wagner to tale the pic :)

But titou2k4 is also entitled to his opinion - something this site used to be good at.
I know David will feel the same.
It's a shame the translation software he uses is so "pathetic" - sic
Can anyone help him with that? We have loads of geeks on here... Rather than slate him for his badly delivered opinion, as asp suggests, offer help.

Oh and finally, before anyone thinks they would do different, if confronted by DC, JBardem, benerice, or olga, fact is you have no idea what you'd do until you're in that situation.
And you often have seconds or minutes to decide, your blood races and you immediately start thinking of strategies to "seal the deal"

    What I find helps is the following;

    1) demonstrate an association with the surroundings - the shop assistant, your wife, anyone around who looks normal and gives the celeb a point of reference. Their first concern ( as would be anyone's ) is STALKER.... giving them a point of future reference is important (ie they can a ask later " did u know that guy who came upto me!" - often a celeb will check that day if genuinely concerned.
    2) be polite and smile.. Look like you are in good mood and not serious. No one wants to make an idle association with someone who looks like they are about to go off on a moan or rant.
    3) never call them by their "work names" - eg "hello mr bond" - always use either their first name "hi David" or their title " hello mr craig" - or if they have approved alliases " hey DC".
I don't know if he likes "DC" so no advised here, but eg Mark Wallenberg wd get off if you said " yo marky Mark"
    4) keep the initial sentence short and await a reply. Eg Hi David - if no reply, no eye contact you have 10 seconds to try again - if no reply/EC forget it. Leave well alone lest you find they have a bodyguard.
    5) always make an association with what they are doing... Eg if DC is looking at coats offer something that adds value to his thought process, not disturbs or distracts. That's annoying for anyone.
    6) if you get a response, at the first chance you get ( rarely first reply you give) offer your name or something about you
    "hi David
    - celeb says hi back
    - sry, huge fan, u just made my day
OR wow, Abby will be sooo jealous; my wife, she's ur biggest fan
OR I was just looking at that coat but couldn't make my mind up..buttons not my style..)
    7) always make eye contact first, and when talking to them... Again no EC is a clear warning sign to a celeb that somethings not right.
    8) only offer your hand if they do first.... Touching is a definite no no unless offered.
    9) if you get a pic be very conscious of where they guide you to stand. Everyone has a "best side" and will naturally guide you to their preferred side. This can be very awkward if you don't spot what they're doing. This is especially true with women.
    10) again, care with touching...especially women... Ask if they mind you putting your arm around them before you just grab- if you want a nice pic of them..

    Cheers Paul
