How about asking the one and only John Williams for one stunning piece and ask Chris Martin and Bono to compose the lyrics and sing it. :007)

I thought Adele's song for SF was fantastic; very Bondian. She's earned another go as far as I'm concerned, but I fully expect Eon to go elsewhere. David Bowie remains the impossible dream for me B-)

I think that Adele will perform at least one more title song. However I actually hope that it isn't Bond 24. Rather like Shirley, she needs a few years between each one.
Its objectively in my mind an ok Bond song...but its too obvious and polished and doesn't have any weird quirks I associate with Bond tunes. It's on the same wavelength for me that is DAD/Another Way To Die/Never Say Never Again/ pure awfulness...(but because it came after another way to die which copied the opening riff to Casino Royale or You Know My Name closely..)yeah of course it sounds awesome..but not compared to 40 plus years before....no.

I find it predictable and a 'by the numbers' entry. Sure it sounds like a Bond song, but it sounds like a deliberate attempt to recreate something of that Bassy vibe rather than an attempt to re-imagine what that would be like in the 21st century. For me it's inauthentic and lazy and Adele sounds like a pub singer, but hey, each to his own and all that and most people seem to love it and it sold bucket loads so it must be good, right?
There is no point in saying addled song wasn't good because it was but it still pales in comparison to Shirley bassey, Tina turner, and Gladys night. But on the other hand today's music is crap and adele has the voice of an angel compared to a lot of other singers so she should probably do it for 1 more unless new talent arises
I’m new here at AJB007, but I’ve lurking here for a while and so have a sense of the way things work. As for the topic at hand, I enjoyed Adele’s rendition of “Skyfall,” but I’d prefer a new voice for Bond 24. My suggestion would be Serena Ryder. Give the following YouTube clip a listen. I’d be interested in your thoughts.
I really liked Adele's song... and I think it worked really well.... however I would like to see someone new singing the title song for the next Bond....
I think Micheal Buble would do a great job (and this video is one big hint, that he wants to do one too!)
Would love to hear D Arnold return, and another from Adele
would be great. Just not Back to back.
I Love Skyfall, Like it more and more with each listen.
Only wish they'd of put it on the soundtrack Disc.
Hmmm. I have to agree. The Skyfall soundtrack just hasn't gripped me like the previous two, which are on frequently when I'm driving any great distance. Skyfall seems just a bit insipid and aimless I thought. No cohesion. No heroic theme.
As for Adele, I thought the title song was a belter from the first time I heard it, Bond-y, Bassey, big and memorable. It had that subtle twist of glorious golden melancholy I expect from Bond songs, the old love and death thing. One can't ask for much more.
For the grand-scale composition in Bond24, might I suggest Mr Steve Jablonsky of Transformers (particularly Dark of the Moon) and The Dark Knight Returns fame. Forgive the nature of both those weightless, shiny paper-thin films - listen to the OST music on a very good pair of headphones and you'll see what I mean. Food for the imagination.
EDIT: Incidentally, hello fellows. First post. Calls for a drink, I'd say.
Agreed. Skyfall was a great title song (and the instrumental version was even better). Arnold usually weaves the title song into his soundtracks with Casino Royale being one of the best examples of this. Having Newman score Skyfall was such a missed opportunity since he used none of the Skyfall theme. I think with the combination of 'Skyfall' and Arnold we would have had the best Bond soundtrack since OHMSS or Thunderball.
Good point Veguro and I think that thought has been echoed by many Bond Fans. Usually the Bond family is pretty in tune with their fans and I expect Bond 24's theme to be inserted throughout the movie a lot more.
That being said, I quite enjoyed Newman's score, I just think that embedding the theme in the movie is a good Bond tradition and Adele's theme worked so well for me that I wish it appeared more.
The Bond themes have always been styled to the period of each film—e.g. FRWL and GF. It’s anachronistic to have an Adele-type big band song these days.
Besides, Adele’s faux New York accented Frank Sinatra-style singing is awful.

That makes no sense at all....it was only 9 months ago....bizarre comment...
My diction must be crap as well as I think her song is great
and I can't hear any problem with her singing. -{ IMHO it's
one of the great Bond themes and will stand the test of time.

The more I hear it, the more I think it's a sensational Bond theme.
If only we could understand what she is singing. What is a Skaifoal?

My point exactly. It was only 9 months ago but it sounded like a bad imitation of the sort of Bond songs from the early 60s. From 1967 till fairly recently all the Bond songs were contemporary sounding.

Must admit, I've always thought that OHMSS' 'we have all the time in the world' is just like madonna's techno 'die another day'. Or is it the other way around?*

What ? Even though it was pretty much universally lauded AND won an Oscar ?
So which other 'fairly recent' themes were not contemporary ?
Personally, I think Skyfall is a pretty darn good title song. It's not the BEST, but it's good. I don't think diction is an issue either Adele. There have been parts of lots of other Bond sings where I was like "what?"
I don't think it will be wise for her to do another title song yet. Too soon. If I were her, I'd want to be something more than "the chic who sings the Bond Songs." She still needs to be an individual artist. Look at Matt Monro. He only did one song (my fave) for FRWL and he was also a successful artist.
From 1967 till fairly recently all the Bond songs were contemporary sounding.
Can you back this statement up?
I mean contemporary to the era they were written in. In other words, Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does it Better” sounded different from Duran Duran’s “A View to Kill”, because they were written in the years they were written in, and so sounded like the style of music then. It would have been odd if, say, FYEO had used a song that sounded like “Goldfinger”. Each Bond theme was suited to the musical style of the year it was written in. Adele's isn't. It is a mid-60s Bond theme sound-a-like. This seems perfectly obvious to me, but I realise that people here will argue against this, simply because I am the one saying it.
No, it simply isn't true that "From 1967 till fairly recently all the Bond songs were contemporary sounding".
In the time frame you mention, Bond songs have broadly speaking fallen into two categories. One of these, by far the smaller of the two, does make an attempt to be contemporary- AVTAK is a good example.
The other category is the "classic" John Barry/James Bond title song, which has not changed significantly since the 1960s. These more or less ignore current trends- "All Time High", for example, sounded dated in 1983. Most of the Bond songs from 67 onwards are pastiches of the 60s songs- for example LTK, GE, and most recently SF.
There are some changes in instrumentation to reflect the times, but basically the Bond song exists in its own universe, or bubble- it's wrong to single out SF.
True, the songs you mention were not exactly clones of the pop chart stuff at the time they were written, and they do inhabit a world of their own, but they weren’t as obviously retro-sounding as Adele’s is. The 1970s songs, though, did for me have a generally 1970s sound, albeit not poppy. Apart from THWTGG which sounded like a Goldfinger era song. But even that was not as retro-sounding of the Goldfinger era as Adele’s is. And yes, regrettably, the Brosnan era did prodcue pastiches of the early 1960s songs.
