James Bond Theme Park - what would you include?

After visiting Bond In Motion last year I started to think about a more permanent James Bond museum or theme park. Museums are cool but tend to be just artefacts where as a theme park could be a combination of Bond artefacts in the context of the films there were in with rides and shows included to make it a fun day out. Then I thought why not create something like Epcot where each Bond film has a section that you pass through (why not have a lake for stunt show as well). Then the idea started to grow in that such a memorial to James Bond needs to be a full day out. So what should it include?

So here was my take.

Enter via gates (Skyfall or other) to car park head for Skyfall Lodge or MI6 HQ and enter buy tickets and shop plus restaurant etc.
Then move to EON centre gives you the history behind JB (sets context).
Making Bond - Inside info on how they made some of the best known scenes.
Bond Style - covering the years
Being Bond - actor interviews etc
Bonds cars and gadgets
Bond Girl hall of fame
Bonds Adversaries - mission update on the bad guys given as a briefing
'The real SIS' - a chance for them to recruit

Then is off to the first film (in Chronological order if the films or Books? ( open to suggestions). Each film has a could of say 3 key sets from the film and interactive areas for photos and hands on. Live actors also add a dash of reality giving mission briefs etc.

As you move around the sets at a certain place you can actually be a bit part actor in a Bond Scene (recorded and taken home). Thinking Hollywood studios where you are met by director casting takes place and you move to a point where several shots are pulled together to make a short film whilst everyone watches.

On the lake there is a stunt spectacular (say twice a day and evening show) involving boats, helicopters and other bond vehicles (Lotus off the jetty into the sea scene), Goldfinger DB5 and DBS. Throw in some free running scenes classic shots etc. fast cars and explosions etc.

There is my framework what else would you add to make it a great day out. Location of course is key but where? Name is critical - what? Which key scenes from which films? What sort of rides?

Suggestions on a post card please!

I'd have the mock volcano as a big set piece. However, before entering folk must don the red boiler suits or whatever that Spectre wear, and hand in their baggage, otherwise it would look daft with folk loitering with their handbags and napsacks.

Around it you could have Oriental theme stuff like a smart restaurant that kind of thing.

Your ideas are pretty good, it has to be interactive or people just gawp and get bored.

Have a read of James Bond visiting EuroDisney in Paris in John Gardner's continuation novel Never Send Flowers (1993). Bond also mentions in this spy novel featuring a serial killer plot that he had been on a previous trip to Disney World theme park in Orlando, Florida with a girlfriend and had greatly enjoyed the experience! Make of that what you will.

That's my two cents' worth on the subject!

And when they visit a mock version of Crab key, they all wear radiation suits.

A DB5 roller coaster would be a must. Also, like how Disney has the Princesses area where you get dressed up to look like a Princess, they could have something similar to dress up as a Bond Girl. A stadium stunt show big enough to accommodate cars, boats, and helicopters with huge explosions would be awesome. The movies sponsors could all have shops in the park, where you can buy screen accurate clothes and props. God I'd love to see this park made.

They could also have a ride where you sit inside an Aston Martin DB5 and you see a little video of M talking telling you your assignment before it starts. The Aston then roars to life with the Bond theme playing in the background as you roar through a track.

    007 Theme Park:

Rides: (Each ride ties in with a film from the series).

Goldfinger - DB5 rollercoaster. The James Bond theme is a must.

Thunderball - Jet pack ride...imagine something like Apocalyspse at Drayton Manor and you have the idea. Helmets optional ;)

OHMMS - A standing style rollercoaster set in the style of a ski resort. Lots of twists, turns and breakneck downhill speeds resembling the ski chase scenes from the film.

Live and Let Die - A river-rapids type ride that mirrors the speedboat chase from the film. Includes sets from that scene including the wedding party, the boat where Adam meets his maker, even throw in a few crocs for good measure.

The Man With The Golden Gun - Passengers travel through Scaramangas maze on a ride a bit like the haunted house at Alton Towers. Use your golden guns to shoot the villains and rack up the biggest score possible. Bonus points for hitting Scaramanga himself. Nick Nack commentates and goads you in the background.

Moonraker - A bigger recreation of the centrifuge scene which spins the passengers at whirlwind pace (not until they pass out though I hasten to add).

Octopussy - Buzzsaw ride. Much like the ride of the same name at Alton Towers.

Goldeneye - Bungee jump experience, mimicking the PTS.

Just a few ideas....possibly needs more work :))

Ok so I am thinking add a Vulcan bomber and CGI ride where you get a flight experience.

DBS driving experience with stunt driver?

Like the Roller coaster, volcano and film ideas they are spot on!

    What about location?

Roller coaster with cars shaped like bullets on a mag launch down a gun barrel. How cool would it be to be launched horizontally and watch the rifling spin around you as you head out. Like the OHMSS ski coaster idea, too.

Gates should be a giant pair of legs to walk thru like the FYEO poster

An Easter 2013 email that I received from the JBIFC just today may be of interest in this thread:

Double-O Heaven? New Plans for Piz Gloria

If there is one place that has been something of a ‘must visit’ location for dedicated 007 fans it is undoubtedly the location for Piz Gloria in Switzerland, the mountain-top site for Blofeld’s lair in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969). Numerous Bond fans have made it their mission to go on a kind of ‘pilgrimage’ to the famous location in the Swiss Alps (including various members of the JBIFC over the years). The revolving restaurant and cable-car station, with fantastic panoramic views of the mountains (well, as long as it’s a clear and sunny day!), saw key action sequences for George Lazenby’s one-off iconic James Bond adventure. However, perhaps surprisingly, apart from being able to absorb the atmosphere of exploring such a famous James Bond movie location, there has not been much on offer at the site for eager visitors in search of anything ‘Bond’ in the past. Some postcards, film stills, badges, souvenir bags, and the chance to drink a ‘007 coffee’ have all been available over the years, but that’s just about it. This may be about to change, however - and in quite a big way.

    The Name’s... ‘Bond World’

The famous site for Piz Gloria is being (what some might term) ‘Disney-fied’. While some Bond fans have welcomed this, not all fans are comfortable with what is apparently being planned. According to a report by Thomas Rottenberg in the German-language newspaper The Standard (March 21), work has started on a major make-over for the site, creating a new Bond-themed experience, named ‘Bond World’. The site’s new 007 ‘experience’ will include a Bond cinema, various multimedia interactive elements for visitors (where they can add their face to the movie’s famous ski chase sequences, for example), and some life-like reproductions of all the James Bond actors.

    Lazenby is Back!

The new ‘Bond World’ experience at the Piz Gloria site will be officially opened on June 28, and the very special guest to help launch the venture will be none other than the star of the iconic film himself, George Lazenby. The former 007 will also be able to see for himself the life-size reproductions of all the James Bonds at the new site, including Sir Sean Connery. Wonder what ‘the other fellah’ would think? There are also indications that Telly Savalas (i.e. Ernst Stavro Blofeld) will be popping up in some form somewhere at the site, along with some SPECTRE guards. Meanwhile, anticipation is still building for George Lazenby’s long-promised memoirs, which should include some interesting insights into his filming at Piz Gloria and about his general time as 007 in the heady days of late-1960s Hollywood.

Oh my god this is such a great idea. I would be at the park from open to close every single day LOL.

Just off the top of my head, a remake of the ice hotel from Die Another Day would be cool.

How about sliding glass doors that pretend to chop an actor in half, with a Timothy Dalton look-a-like popping a balloon nearby?

Ok so we can add a few trains one for a circus another armoured then throw in another with a crane and crushed Beetles! Chuck in an ice hotel, North/ South Korean border scene, miniature millennium dome and Scottish castle. Of course we need exploding MI6 HQ!

Now heading further back in time ..... Scalamangers lair, Ford Mustang stunt spectacular, flying car hmm and so the list grows! Couple of submarines hidden in a tanker space station, space capsules, shuttles and buggies. Fast boats, old mines x a couple, zeppelin, eiffel tower this is kind of fun!

They would need a cable car ride and there would be a mechanized Jaws trying to bite through the cable. Kind of like the now defunct Jaws the shark ride

Would the Mustang stunt show have the car entering an alley on one set of wheels and leaving it on the other? :)) :)) :))

It's also interesting to note that in the outtake of M-Bond briefing scene in the fast-moving car in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) James Bond says that Elliot Carver has "theme parks" as part of his Carver Media Group Empire. It would have been interesting to have seen James Bond follow a lead at one of these a la the Euro Disney finale in John Gardner's Never Send Flowers (1993). Sadly this never came to pass. It could have been called Tomorrow Never Dies Land.
