when Bond is daft...

Just watched AVTAK, and something bothers me. Bond is rather dumb to admit that it was his gun found in Howe's office. In an evidence bag, he watched Howe shot with it, why did he admit it was his? Anybody else see that as a bit daft? What other scenes bother you as being below the average intelligence level?

When in doubt tell the truth. Bond's not a liar. He tried to explain that he was a member of the British Secret Service. Besides, would it have made any difference to the Police? He was going to be arrested no-matter-what. By your logic he could have denied ownership of the gun and then simply walked away.

However, one scene that does strike me as a bit dumb was Bond removing his 3rd nipple and tossing it while still in full view of the enemies. (TMWTGG)

Driving up to Scotland without stashing up on extra firepower seems a bit dumb imo. I mean, the DB5 was loaded with ammunition so maybe he had some supplies in his garage, perhaps he could have packed more into the boot? Or maybe a detour via Q branch or the Armourer could have netted some additional weapons without coming to Silva's attention.

I would say that Bond is a liar much of the time, isn't that what aliases are all about? If your name were James Bond and you tell people that your name is James Stock or James St. John-Smythe, is that not a falsehood, a lie? And he wasn't placed under arrest until after he admitted owning the PPK. So how can you say he was going to be arrested anyway?

The third nipple thing is a good one. There aren't many moments like that, but Bond is human after all. There are bound to be more.

And, don't forget he had the false third nipple on in the wrong place! Though I suppose that there were no photographs of old Scaramanga on file.

The thing about not getting more weapons and ammunition prior to going to Scotland in Skyfall was two fold. Bond wanted to get M away from Sliva before more people got caught in the cross fire like what had happened in the courthouse. He likely did not return to MI6's bunker becuase it would cost him valuabile time in getting M to a remote location. Also he had no idea prior to coming to Scotland that his family gun collection had been sold until Kincade told him, he was hoping that they could arm themselves with the weapons in the gun room. That is why they made do with the weapons that had and made booby traps inside the house.

LOL, well, being declared dead will mess up your stuff... but since Bond's an idiot he wouldn't think of that. Wait- I don't LIKE Bond being an idiot! X-(

He was banking on the idea that Scaramanga and Hai-Fat had never actually met. Pretty bold gamble.

And as for the "not a liar" comment. I'm aware of Bond's many aliases, but in this case Bond was speaking with a Police officer. It's against the law to lie to a Police officer plus it would have been stupid to try and deny it. Yes, the gun is mine and I'm with the British Secret Service. I think he did the right thing, it just didn't work out in his favor.

This point isn't so much Bond being dumb, but why on earth did Stromberg let Bond onto his Atlantis hideout, show him around and say to his henchmen, "Wait for them to get ashore, then kill them." So instead of just killing Bond there and then, he sends a helicopter to shoot up half the country side in broad daylight. Come on Stromberg, use your head man :s

In DR NO Bond leaves Ms office, stops at Moneypennys desk
hands her the empty PPK box and says ciao, he is on his way
to Jamaica, now if he was on his way to Rome it would have made sense,
now every one in Jamaica says yeah man regardless ,but the puzzling thing is
as Flemming lived in Jamaica i wonder why he didnt use a different way of saying good bye
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

Yes, and in TMWTGG it was a gamble that didn't pay off at all and so it just made James Bond look foolish and rather silly.

Au contraire, it made Bond look like a high stakes player! But no one can win on every roll. :007)

So...another way of saying that is that Bond FAILED! 8-)

RogueAgent, the part of that AVTAK scene that does strike me as daft, is why does Bond think it's so important to get in the rear section of the firetruck? He almost killed himself in the process and the gain seemed fairly minimal.

One more note about the conversation with the Police Officer: i forgot about the line about Chuck Lee.

excerpt from the AVTAK story book:

"A police captain pushed his way through the crowd to reach Bond. "Does this belong to you?" The captain held up Bond' PPK. "We found it next to Howe's body."

Bond didn't answer directly. "If you'll contact Chuck Lee of the CIA, he'll inform you who I am."

"Lee is dead. We picked up his body in Chinatown." The captain's voice was solemn. "You're under arrest."
