government would not investigate just a crafty coin smuggler! When Fleming wrote the novel during the fifties cold war, Mr. Big’s history
included hi-jacking trucks for Legs Diamond, working for the OSS during WWII then recruited by the Soviets as an agent for SMERSH, then settling into New York as an imbedded Russian spy and head of his own underground criminal gang. His coin smuggling was merely an effort to use ancient pirate treasure he found to help finance his operation and to send to Moscow. Some crafty coin smuggler!
I didn't (and don't) like the Roger Moore films (and I can explain why). But they're still James Bond films.
I feel the same. And for what it's worth, I think Skyfall is as "real" a James Bond film as any other. -{

After Sam Mendes saying the thought of him preparing and doing Bond 24 at this time would make him "physically ill", I think Sam Mendes is getting cocky. Getting a swelled head are we?
Okay, if the producers do find a new director soon in 2013, maybe there is a slim chance of Bond 24 being filmed in 2014, but I don't see it being ready for a November 2014 release, based upon Daniel Craig's upcoming schedule with his stage production.
There are plenty of directors and producers-want-to-be directors in the sea out there and they don't have to wait for Sam Mendes to become available.
However, I have read 12 directors have already turned down the offer to direct Bond 24. It's too bad Martin Campbell will not return to direct another Bond movie. He is already 70 though.
As one of my favourites from the series, such a strong aspect of the film was the uniqueness of the villians, and almost über-fantasy of the voodoo/aspect fear of the villian's lair. As incredible as all 3 Daniel Craig file have been, I'd like to see slightly more of a departure into the really classic Dr.No/YOLT/LALD/TMWTGG style villian's lair where Bond has to evade more obstacles. Also, most of the iconic villians and henchmen were quite unique - oddjob, tee hee, jaws. The future characters should make a more lasting impression because of their unique traits. (Oh the memories of watching odd job with his hat when I was really young lol!)
That being said, it shouldn't turn into a plot with constant, overly impressive stunts/CGIs, like a Schwarzenegger movie, or some parts of DAD.

A couple of years ago Barbara Broccoli stated in an interview somewhere that they are not interested in remakes.
It's a good idea, though, from a creative point of view.
I wish that You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die and Moonraker could be remade in accord with the novels. I wish somebody, anybody -- not the Broccoli's -- could remake The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only and Licence to Kill the way Richard Maibaum originally wrote them, before his scripts were changed. But that's just wishful thinking. It will never happen. One family owns the film and TV rights to James Bond in perpetuity. They will never sell it or allow another entity to control it either creatively or financially.
If we have to wait until 2016 for another James Bond movie I would rather they get rid of Daniel Craig and find a new actor. This waiting 3 to 4 years for a James Bond movie is ridiculous. I'm getting to the point where I just don't care anymore about Daniel Craig and James Bond.

If Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli don't want to keep up the momentum and bring out a James Bond movie in 2014, then to hell with them. I look forward to the next generation of Wilsons taking over.

...Here is the way I see it. Since Daniel Craig and his wife are doing a stage production from October 2013 to February 2014 in New York, it doesn't seem their will be any time for pre-production stuff in late 2013. They probably want to give John Logan more than a year to write the screenplay.
I'm just guessing, but I wonder if they are waiting for Sam Mendes to be done with his stage productions in 2013-14 and then coax him back into doing Bond 24.
It looks like we might have to wait until 2015 for an actual release of the next movie. The producers don't seem to be in any hurry this time like they were with Quantum of Solace (2008). ...
Under the circumstances I think it will be 2016 before Bond 24 is released.

At this rate the next Bond film -- Bond 25 -- will be in 2019 or 2020.
That means Daniel Craig will have made less Bond films over the longest period of time of any actor to take on the role. He's a multi-millionaire now, he doesn't need to work for money, he can do what he wants, his contract is secure, and he's in no hurry. He doesn't care if you don't get your Bond fix. The Broccoli family have been through 23 of these films already and one more is no big thing. They'll get around to it when they get around to it. They know the franchise will keep itself going without a new installment, and what they eventually deliver won't make or break the franchise one way or another because the fan base accepts anything.
As much as I would like to see the franchise change ownership -- taken over by more discerning hands who know how to deliver a film to the marketplace every two years -- I fear the opposite will be true. After Michael G. Wilson retires, Barbara Broccoli will continue to deconstruct the character and transform the series into something else until she is too old or dead. Then their children or stepchildren -- who, going by the videogames they've been writing, are even less talented than Michael and Babs -- will take over. James Bond will stay in the family. There will never be another point of view. There will never be another take on the character. This gene pool of diminishing returns will never let go of the film rights. Never. It's their ticket through life.
Four years is a long time to wait for the next miserably depressing installment into the deconstruction of James Bond.

But you say that only because you don't know any better, not having read any of the original novels on which the Police Academy characters are based. Nor, I suspect, have you studied police comedy screenwriting, directing or acting. So your opinion, though possibly sincere, is surely misguided and uninformed. Oh, dear, another rant about how poor, unappreciated Richard Maibaum's perfect scripts were turned into twaddle by those heartless producers and how his unrealized legacy is being destroyed by those producers' pinheaded heirs. (Which makes me wonder if what Maibaum wrote was never really filmed, how can his "vision" be damaged? And never mind that screenwriters are not novelists, who are in charge of every aspect of the story, but people hired to do a job. . .he can write a brilliant script, but if the producer or director doesn't like it, it gets rewritten. Something you'd think Maibaum, who worked decades in the industry, would understand. But I digress.)
I keep thinking back to my undergraduate days at the university, when a particularly fiery evangelist would appear on campus. He and his wife would shriek at the top of their lungs about what fools we college students were. We thought we were happy and satisfied, they screamed, but our professors were "raping" our minds; we were so tied up in acquiring false knowledge, making "lustful" connections, and focusing on the "needs" of the world that we were blinded to the "truth" of the spiritual world; and we would, of course, regret our choices, in this world or in the next. . .
I think most of us remained happy with what we got from the university. I believe the evangelist and his wife are out there shrieking on some corner, ignored, laughed at, but happy in the belief they've got it all figured out.

Live and Let Die is the first bond film I need saw as a 10 year old ! It could be re done ...... but the atmosphere of the 1973 film will not be matched
Although, I have to say seeing an adaptation of "Live and Let Die" the novel done in a film in a way that was true to the way Fleming wrote it would really be enjoyable. It's still one of my favorite Fleming novels.
Why would any Bond film have to be true to one of Fleming's novels? Most of the movies tend to be a lot better than the novels. Fleming was a colorful writer, but not a great one. At least to me.
And a remake of "Live and Let Die"? How unoriginal. Why not do an adaptation of a John Gardner or Raymond Benson novel?
Just watched LALD (1972) and I don't think a remake would be appropriate. However, I would just love to see a "homage" to the opening scene in Bond's home.....just imagine....
Craig in bed with a hottie in his super cool minimalist pad somewhere in South London. Doorbell rings, knock, knock....Craig gets out of bed in boxers not bothering to put a housecoat on! At the door is Ralph Feinns, M! Briefing ensues over coffee. Moneypenny arrives with plane tickets and in walks Ben Wishaw as Q with a new watch!
Could be an awesome start to Bond 24! Anyone else think so???
For me at least I've had enough of all the Homages to past Films. I'd like them
to stop, and come up with some new great scenes. Stop looking back and push
forward, Bond is cool and even trendy again, So go for it. The killing of Sévérine
is a case in point of a new scene which I can see being used in Bond Documentaries
along with, The croc jump, etc for years to come.
