Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing vs. Licence To Kill

Are any folks here like me in that they appreciated Last Man Standing, but they can't watch it any more because they feel Licence To Kill is just a hands down better modern retelling of Yojimbo? -{
Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

    I had never thought about the similarities, but you are spot on.

    To be honest, Last Man Standing was my least favorite version of that story. Incidentally, the plot of Yojimbo, Fistful of Dollars, etc. originated with a Dashiell Hammett novel called The Glass Key. It was made into a film starring Alan Ladd.

    My favorite take on it was Miller's Crossing by the Coen Brothers.

    I will have to check that out then.
    Still, Yojimbo is still my favourite version of Yojimbo!

    What are you talking about??? ?:)
    Yojimbo is about a lone guy caught between 2 rival factions.
    It has nothing in common with the revenge story of Licence to Kill.
    The only reason not to watch Last Man Standing is because Yojimbo was indeed remade in a better film than Last Man Standing, and that film is Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars. I can't think of any Bond film inspired by Yojimbo, or by any Kurosawa movie for that matter.

    Michael G Wilson did an interview about License to Kill being influenced by Yojimbo.

    I haven't seen Last Man Standing. But yeah, Yojimbo is on my top 10 favorites of all time. :x

    They are all about a newcommer to a voilent town who plants seeds of distrust to trick the bad guys into killing each other.

    Agreed Number24, LTK used the Yojimbo idea of a lone
    man turning the villain's men against eachother. -{
    That's why IMHO it's a far better revenge movie than QOS.

    SPECTRE specialized in doing that, starting with FRWL

    It would have been interesting if Dalton used non-lethal tactics after getting his license revoked. This would include causing distrust among the villains and encouraging them to kill each other. Instead Bond goes on a rampage and should probably be in prison by the end of Licence to Kill.
