Thanks for the compliments. After going through the process, I found out how tough this jacket really is (Even before waxing). It also helps the fit of the jacket, whereas before, I thought the sleeves felt a little short. Now, it fits perfectly. Regarding the color of the jacket, It all depends on the lighting. In low lighting, it shows as dark brown. In daylight, the green pops out more to the olive color you see in the movie. I can't wait this autumn and winter to come. It'll definitely be a nice addition for the shooting range (especially for the clay pigeon course).

The first hot topic seems to be the colour. Of course the dyed colour is vastly different to the original colour, but is it screen accurate??? I believe it is awfully close, it photgraphs more brown, but the green comes out more under natural light. You will understand the reason it has been so hard to pin down is because the fabric darkens once waxed. And it must also have an even coating of wax for an even colour. If the fabric colour was screen accurate PRIOR to waxing, the results would be far too dark once waxed.
While saying hello, I thought I’d take the time to put some better photos up of my jacket that show off the colour better for those of you who are looking to take me up on this jacket. This morning, in my imagination... I took my db5 out for a spin and took a few promo photos... in Scotland.

The jacket looks like it has a very even coat on the new images. An even coat of the wax seems like a good way to get the best results whilst touching up on certain places that may require doing some extra work! Thanks for the post dan

Ryan, using Sno Seal you'll end up with a similar result. Personnally I've just become a huge fan of waxed jackets, I'm actually considering waxing my QoS Harrington (No plugging there I'm out of stock and probably won't be doing them again) I think it would add a nice rugged touch to it. With that one its supposed to look a bit beat up, I think waxing would give any ordinary cotton jacket a desirable 'characater' as well as the obvious waterproofing benifit. Like it.

You def nailed the Harrington style wise (I had an original Tom Ford once but it was too small hence purchased your version), if it was done in a slightly heavier material it would be perfect and I would def buy another (its a little lightweight compared to the original)

Thanks a lot for the compliment. I agree with the harrington being a bit lightweight, it was my first crack at a replica and I wasn't able to work from the real thing. As I mentioned to Ryan, I have been considering waxing my harrington, just thought I'd mention it. You may not think thats a great idea, but with the lodge jacket it turned an ordinary cotton jacket into something that feels bulletproof. At the time I had a harrington tailor made for my dad and I was visiting them last night and out of the blue dad asked me if I thought waxing his would be a good idea. LOL Great minds

No this is the original sample jacket. It's the same jacket I compare with in the tutorial. Its brown. These were the images I sent out to originally generate some interest, back in December??? I think.

I watched your video, and my question is if I put the dye in the washer won't that stain it and future washes? I think my wife would kill me if all her clothes were to be Kelly green and cocoa brown.
Ah I see, looks pretty much spot on to me. I live in across the river from South Shields were Barbour was founded and tried on the genuine To Ki To jacket and the colour is not quite as dark as I first thought, very olive green and the fit was amazing! Looked almost identical to the ones shown in the images above. When the jacket arrives I may need some assistance with the process but I look forward to the challenge

Since you mentioned it I decided to dig it out... and what the hell put it up on ebay. Although I wedged myself into it for these pics it really was too tight to wear. Its as new, but I def. pefer my waxed olive jacket ))
James, after your done dyeing you can just put it through a quick rinse, I haven't bothered with that, but just wipped the door with a sponge (mines a front loader) I haven't noticed any problems with the rest of my clothes. Also, I set mine to intensive rinse when dyeing anyway.

Then last week I cam across Daniels ebay listing for the jacket, I watched his video and yesterday I placed my order. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the transformation process. Thanks for posting this video I just finished a jacket for my Dad and used the shoe brush technique. It worked really well and evened out my heavy waxing job. Really made it look like it just came off the rack. Dads wrapped with it. Thanks again Jay-Ninja.
I stripped the jacket and then put it through the wash. Any hints on how to tell if some of the coating
is still left on? The material all looks the same to me.
It will be a little easier to see spots after you take it out of the wash. But the best thing to do is look at it in direct sunlight. Also, I haven't tried this, but if you have a black-light, see what happens.

Sorry for the delay... I agree While its still damp in direct sunlight is the best bet. Also, although its another small expense if you have missed a bit its not the end of the world. On the second jacket I did I missed a small spot on the under the right sleeve. I hit it with some more MEK and run it through another packet of Cocoa Brown. I wasn't as fussy with that one, but once I had dyed the jacket it exposed the spots where the pvc still was. Sure it was another packet of dye, but it was a breeze finishing it from there.... Hope that helps.

I have decided to ‘resurrect’ a few of these jackets myself. (I won’t be doing all of them) but I should have 3 full waxed Olive replicas for sale on ebay by the end of the week. I am only going to be providing the 3 most popular sizes at this stage (M-L-XL) and I have one of each ready to go, just waiting on the Sno Seal to arrive. Most of you will know the back story and whats involved to get them sorted. It takes me about 7-8hrs per jacket to bring them back to life + $50 in materials, so as you can imagine I have to charge something for the time and effort. I work full time, so when a size has sold it may be a couple of weeks before I get a replacement jacket up on ebay. I will probably only be doing 1, maybe 2 jackets a week. (one of M-L-XL)

Pick up a nice screen accurate replica for half the price of the Commander or a third of the price of the original jacket (with hood and accessories), or grab one of the unfinished ones and put in the elbow grease yourself, at less than half the price of my finished replica.

I got my jacket today - good news is it fits perfectly, glad I went for the large rather than medium. Bad news was I was charged £17 for import duty - just bear this in mind. Dan, I wonder if you stated the value as £0 and wrote "No Commercial Value - Gift" it may avoid the tax ?
Anyway, the jacket is great so I can live with the extra. Looking forward to starting the process this weekend and just ordered my three packs of MEK !!
To anyone considering one I say go for it - all costs considered still considerably cheaper thn a Barbour original !
Coming soon to ebay... Run out of time so I haven't got them on ebay yet, but 3 jackets are finished waxed and ready for new owners. I will update the sizing table, please be aware there was some shrinking with the heat gun, so I'll post a new sizing table for these. I'm out of town for a couple of days, but will have them on the bay by Sunday.
