Bond in the US

This might have been discussed before. And this might hurt some people. But is it me, or does every time when our hero enters the US in the movies, the quality of the movie degrades immediately?
Mind you, I love the US. I have studied in Miami (okay, more Latin America, but still ) and have visited on many occassions. But when Bond eneters the US, most of the time, the producers or directors seem to get it wrong. Some examples:
AVTAK: This movie has many flaws, but to me it was quite enjoyable, right until the moment Bond arrived in san Francisco. The movie became a bit of a bore since. And San Francisco is probably my favourite city in the US.
LALD: As usual, too many stereotypes for the US. Sherrif Pepper of course as worst example. I love New Orleans and New York, but they did not get the maximum out of these cities.
DAF: One of the worst movies, period. the stereotype US citizens dont help either.
It truely is a shame, but to me, Bond in America, was never a success. I hope Bond will get his revenge someday, there are plenty of cool places for Bond to have action I would say.

If they need an empty building to film at, there is the debunked Fontainebleu.
Can you see it now: James Bond running through Circus Circus again, being trapped in the pyramid of the Luxor, bumping in to "Joe Butcher" (Wayne Newton) at the Tropicana or maybe a shoot-out at the Casa de Shenandoah estate.
If James Bond wants to return to Louisville, Fort Knox, New York or Las Vegas for storyline purposes, I am up for it. New Orleans did not do a thing for me in Live and Let Die.
Maybe Bond in the US doesnt work, because the US is too generic as a movie country? The exotic locations is what differentiated Bond from most other action movies in my opinion. Something the Mission Impossible and the Bourne movies also try to do now.

Setting the San Fransisco city hall ablaze was cool and fighting atop the Golden Gate bridge remains one of the best ever engagements of a monument. Kind of like Mount Rushmore in North by Northwest.
Las Vegas vibe fit perfectly with DAF. No complaints there.
Was Goldfinger filmed in Kentucky or was it actually England?

Vegas was a more glamorous town in the 70's than it is today. Today it is a kind of Disneyland for kids and hillbillies, sorry to say. I totally don't see the glamour there anymore. In the 70's it was a lot different.

If IMDB is accurate the locations are this:
Fort Knox, Kentucky, USA
(Fort Knox exteriors)
Harris & Main, Muldraugh, Kentucky, USA
(Drive to Fort Knox)
Lexington, Kentucky, USA
(airport scene)
Louisville, Kentucky, USA
(Fort Knox exteriors/Bowman Field)
1971
I agree, although a little of Casino Royale takes place in Florida. I actually like seeing Bond stay OUT of the USA. When I think Bond movies I think of more exotic locations. I'm born, raised and live in the US for almost 48 years now and I can't think of many exotic places in the USA . I have made a few cross country trips by car and between the coasts, there's nothing. We see enough of the major cities in other movies and TV shows.
Bond SHOULD go to Rio, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, Turkey and maybe some other areas he hasn't been to in a while. He should stay OUT of the UK, too, as MI6 traditionally has not had juristiction there (I don't know if that's changed now, but that was a problem I had with Skyfall).
Borning to see Bond in a familiar setting, While to us Non
Americans it seems pretty exotic. ).
MI6 has no jurisdiction in the UK. Although as far as Skyfall is concerned, he was never on any official job in the UK, so you shouldn't have a problem with it.
But that Vegas was old time, and it has since been reinvented as a family destination. It's an acquired taste; I visited it and it felt rubbish but it grew on me. The lovely fountains from the Beraglio (where I stayed, I've misspelled it though) at the end of Ocean's 11 would grace the finale of any Bond film.
Otherwise, well, guess it's hit and miss. Would like to see Craig's Bond in a Manhatten plush apartment as with the film Someone to Watch Over Me (that goes back a bit).
Roger Moore 1927-2017
It was so much more interesting when the city ended at a desert- now it goes on and on.... 8-)
