Beginners Bond

Which Film would you show to somebody who had never seen a Bond film before but wanted to watch one for the first time?
Obviously you would show a fairly impressive Bond and not an extremely corny one.

I've got 4 I'm tied between - FRWL, LALD, GE and CR......and I think the last one just clinches it.
....and the best he ever managed was a sermon on the mount.

Very good choices although except for LALD, in my opinion, as it's perhaps the most unusual entry in the series.

TSWLM would also be a very good shout, I think, as it has a bit of everything.
    1- CR. 2- OHMSS. 3- FRWL. 4- GF. 5- DN. 6- TLD. 7- SF. 8- TSWLM. 9- GE. 10- LTK.
    11- TB. 12- OP. 13- LALD. 14- TMWTGG. 15- FYEO. 16- YOLT. 17- TND. 18- QoS.
    19- TWINE. 20- AVTAK. 21- MR. 22- DAF. 23- DAD.

i'd recommend Dr No as it is the first Bond film. It will get someone acclimatized to the Bond lifestyle. The script has rather dry one liners ("I think they were on their way to a funeral!").

I suggested exactly the same two on this thread:

GE would also be a good choice but, honestly, FRWL or CR wouldn't succeed to turn me into a Bond fan ... ;%

Depends if it's to be an older classic, Then I'd go for
Goldfinger, as it set the mold for what was to follow.
TND is full of action, while CR would be the start of the
Modern era. Although QOS is at least short so that could
    act as a tester. :))

Casino Royale and Skyfall, the two bet Bond films you can't go wrong from there.

OHMSS would also be a cracking starter in many ways as well I feel, I watched it yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly although I have to say the TERRIBLE rear projection shots and Lazenbys wooden acting to put me off of the film somewhat. Plus I don't think it has aged very well at all.

As far as sound goes I think OHMSS was one of the first Films
to have a "Part " stereo soundtrack, during the avalanche scene.

    That scene was ridiculous :))

Agreed. Other Bond films may have better villains or girls, but none of them combine all the classic elements better than Goldfinger or The Spy Who Loved Me, IMO.

Any one of Skyfall, Goldeneye or Casino Royale. If you don't like any of those movies there is something wrong with you.

But I guess some people prefer the older movies so for that person probably Goldfinger.
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me

Goldfinger for me, without a doubt.

I would interestingly show him the spy who loved me. It had all the Bond ingredients:

    - a ski chase
    - a killer PTS
    - a gorgeous Bond girl
    - a villain who wanted world domination
    - a legenadry henchman
    - a car chase full of gadgets
    - the original M and Q
    - Ken Adam sets
    - exotic locations
    - Russia connection

It is not my favourite Bond film, but it does have the complete package. The only thing missing is John Barry's music.

Naturally, the viewer should than switch immediately to the Connery movies and OHMSS :)
OHMSS, FRWL, DN, GF, CR, GE, SP, YOLT, TB, TSWLM, LALD, TLD, TND, FYEO, SF, MR, TMWTGG, TWINE, OP, AVTAK, DAF, LTK, QOS, DAD

    1. Connery 2. Craig 3. Brosnan 4. Dalton 5. Lazenby 6. Moore

I think the first Bond films I remember watching as a wee nipper were GF/TSWLM/GE. All films which have that magic Bond forumla and some very memorable, classic scenes. I must hasten to add that these are not my favourite Bond films but my preferred films (CR/LTK/FRWL) are a bit more tough going for a first time viewer.

I normally would recommend Goldeneye, except the a first time viewer might be confused by all the lectures that Bond gets about not being politically correct etc.... a poor decision by the screenwriters IMO.. Each 007 film should stand alone without needing to watch any of the previous films. Aside from that quibble, I would rank Goldeneye alongside TSWLM and Goldfinger as the greatest, and most definitive of the Bond series.

TSWLM, TLD, and Goldeneye would be among my firsties list, depending on who was watching them.
