I just watched this video and it did make me stop and reconsider how good I thought Skyfall was... largely because of the impossibility of Silva's plan! What are your thoughts?

On the one hand, very entertaining... on the other hand, (as I say in another thread) people take things a little too seriously and have to overanalyze. Can't we just sit back and view a piece of fiction as entertainment?

Definitely good for a laugh; but, to follow what davidelliott101 says, it's only a movie! If you want flawless realism, just live your ordinary life. . .

Though I still scratch my head over the aclaim SF has received, the plot and its holes wasn't really a deal breaker, afterall, Bond movies are all about plot holes and I can live with them.

I remember when many of us got excited that Paul Haggis was hired for CR considering the quality of his writing credits and someone complained about the implausibility of how the diffferent plotlines and characters of Crash somehow became interconnected.

Lost interest after the first five seconds. Having Eve reference a car as a "black Audi" obviously isn't a plot hole. It's not even an offensive example of product placement as that's what most people would say (what's she supposed to say, he's in the black thing with wheels on it?). Now, the Rolex-Omega moment in CR was truly cringeworthy.

So, assuming that's their most egregious example (you lead off with your strongest argument), SF must've been near perfect.

    Ridiculous.

So are you really telling me that BAFTA, the American Academy, Golden Globes and just about a billion people worldwide are wrong???

    Skyfall is awesome!

Whilst I don't necessarily agree that being nominated for many awards automatically means a film is good, it's only fair to point out, superado, that, needless to say, DAD was not nominated for any BAFTAs or Academy Awards. It was actually nominated for a Golden Globe but in the "best song" category (it was also nominated for a Razzie in the same category.)

Ok people cool your jets! I know Bond films aren't realistic, but he does point out a fairly large flaw with the plot here! I'm just saying it has made me look at the film in a slightly different light! Some of this guy's other videos are good, the one about Transformers for example!

So, to suit your arguments, it seems you are conveniently selective when being "award winning" is applicable.

I'm sorry if you feel as though I'm persecuting you in some way but there's really no need to be so rude or so sarcastic.

Regarding awards, please note the words "automatically" and "necessarily". From your posts you seem like an intelligent and literate person so I can only assume that you misread the sentence as it's clear to me that the meaning of those words and, by extension, the statement can't be lost on you.

Also, please note (and this is now the third time I have repeated this) that my only point about Mendes being an Oscar-winner was that would be a reason why Eon would listen to him when he makes a judgement about what works and what doesn't in an edit. I was very clear on that point so I struggle to see why you have so much trouble understanding it. I don't really follow how someone can be "right" about an opinion? How does that work?

I noticed that in trying to find inconsistencies in my posts across threads and commenting on my use of formatting, you ignored the central point of my post, which was to point out - simply in the spirit of presenting the facts as they are (rather than how we might prefer them to be) - that DAD wasn't nominated for either an Oscar or a BAFTA as you had suggested. I didn't expect a response. It was, after all, a simple statement of fact and I had assumed that you were simply confused or misremembering. But I have to say that I am rather surprised that you chose to respond the way you did.

I'm happy to discuss the films and novels with you as your opinions are interesting even if I don't agree with them. But if we can't do it politely and in the spirit of the rest of the forum then it will proabably be more pleasant for everyone if we don't.

” I'm sorry if you feel as though I'm persecuting you in some way but there's really no need to be so rude or so sarcastic.”

Why be sorry, lol? Why should I think you’re persecuting me? Is it because you called out my name in a thread you haven’t previously posted on? Beside the “main point” of your statement, why put my name in bold? Was that a typo? Nonetheless, you’re the best judge of your own motives, but it’s interesting how you feel that I shouldn’t have even responded to that “statement” of yours, so I’m sorry for not observing decorum, lol.

”I noticed that in trying to find inconsistencies in my posts… ”
It’s my turn to be sorry, but you make it too easy, because the inconsistencies…are just there, glaring in black in white.

”It was, after all, a simple statement of fact.. ”
I honestly enjoy your presentation of “facts” and the way you editorialize them first, to the point when they don’t even resemble the supposed data you are drawing from, and second, how you choose to highlight or totally ignore statements in the progression (or rather, regression) of threads to either try covering up an earlier post of yours, or putting other posters in the wrong light.

”I struggle to see why you have so much trouble understanding it… ”
You know, there is “having opinions” and “being opinionated,” and you are the latter. Apart from being condescending and patronizing, proof of that is the typical word-count of your posts when someone doesn’t agree with you and you just have to build up such an overwhelming case in an attempt to prove you are right. Based on your own statements, you seem to have highly defined expectations on how others should think, what conclusions to make, how this or that statement should have been understood, and so on. A touch of Napoleon Complex, perhaps? …I’d have that checked out by the real Sir James Moloney, if I were you. 8-)

superado, I'm very sorry to have rubbed you up the wrong way. I just come on here for a bit of fun so I really don't want to come across as overbearing, patronising, or condescending. I genuinely find your posts very stimulating - even if I don't always agree - and that might be why I'm inclined to respond. To quote Bond in YOLT, "my intentions are strictly honourable"!

Hope we can go on to debate the films and novels in a friendly manner :)

Regarding Skyfall, it's definitely gone down in my estimation since seeing it on the big screen, but that seems to be the case with all Bond films (I really rated DAD and QoS when I saw them on their release!) but it's still comfortably in my top ten.

You've shown yourself to be the bigger man, thank you, Sir James, I'm sorry too. On a tangent, but somewhat related note, I just received my Bond 50 blu-ray set today, which I've agonized over getting since it was released, for a decent price and this marks the start of a Bond movie marathon for me, stretched over a few months of course!

I'm very jealous as I've been agonizing over the same decision and there are still so many of the early films I haven't seen in HD. Looking forward to hearing about your marathon. I often find that I'll watch a Bond film I haven't seen in a while and come away with a different view than previously (I used to quite dislike YOLT but watched it at Christmas and found there was so much to enjoy about it when in the right frame of mind) - It will be interesting to hear how it goes!

I've seen every Bond movie in the cinemas except for Dr. No and FRWL at some point I'll remedy that. But every time a new Bond movie comes out its always hailed as the best Bond Ever. Skyfall was ok..it was really slow and nothing much happened and MI6 was incompetent and Silva got everything he wanted, embarrass MI6 and kill M..since he was suicidal Bond killing him meant nothing...the audience did clap during DB5 scene..but the end gave me hope that they will go back to Bond Basics...I want to see Daniel Craig finish his term as Bond in a villains lair with lots of hot women...on Mars.

Wow, I think that the serious, realistically gritty, soul-wrenching direction the reboot has taken will actually make a fantastic set-up for Bond vanquishing a super-villain on Mars and diddling his all-female cadre of henchmen, ahem, henchwomen, as his reward. Cheers! -{ :007)
