and apparently donated his £1.6m to cancer research or summat like that, in which case, top man.
I'm afraid that is an untrue rumour, although it stems from confusion over the fact that he donated his prize money from the Queens tournament just before Wimbledon, so still hats off to the guy!

Think he's confusing this thread with the ' I despair with the world' one ) )
Murray donated his winnings from Queens to The Royal Marsden Hospital where a good friend of his is receiving treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma ... Pretty sure they will have appreciated a £73,000 donation
Going to watch the documentary about him tonight. Missed it the first time round. It's the first time he has ever spoken about Dunblane and Thomas Hamilton.
I do totally agree with Sir Miles about Knighthoods though .... Given to all and sundry these days 8-)
Once had an argument with a Canadian of Scottish ancestry (which likely means her great great grandmother once ate a Tunnock's snowball) who screamed while quite red in the face that Ewan McGregor isn't British, he's Scottish. I pointed out that all Scots are British (like it or not) but not all British are Scottish. Just like all Quebecers are Canadian (like it or not) but not all Canadians are Quebecers. She walked away scratching her head in confusion. The only reason I mention it is that this morning with all the "Brit Andy Murray wins Wimbledon" headlines all over the world she's likely going a beautiful Sir Alex Ferguson apoplectic shade of purple.

Ah right...so not quite the 'good samaritan' then - he could have given the FAR larger cheque...especially as he'll make a skip-load of cash now...but I do give him credit for giving anything at all -{
I love those ... Eaten loads of them over the years. Does that make me Scottish too ?? ) )
Unquestionably, and if ever you washed one down with an Irn-Bru, then you should be amongst the top ten in queue for the Stone of Scone. (Although if you think the latter is a stale pastry, you are immediately eliminated from consideration).
Oh right...so he gives the small amount away...but keeps the far larger amount...yeah....top guy 8-)
Love to know what proportion of your salary you donated to charity this year, Sir Miles! He did also take part in a doubles match to raise further money for the hospital almost immediately after winning at Queens.
I work for the NHS, dear...so it's ALL charity work X-(
As a fellow public sector worker I feel your pain Sir M. Have just been in hospital for quite a big operation and I was left in awe of the staff and their dedication. Very positive experience for me.
When David Cameron makes stupid statements like ' I can think of no one who deserves to be Knighthood more ' ... I do despair ...
Anyhows, I still applaud him for giving his winnings to the hospital.
The interesting thing with Murray is that last year I was routing for Federer. He's managed to turn the
publics opinion of him ... or maybe its just because he started winning ) )

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I was cheering for Federer last year, but I certainly wasn't all agog for Murray...until he lost and cried. Suddenly the unemotional and not particularly likeable guy melted away and a likeable guy appeared in his place. Couldn't help but like him then and have ever since...and not because he's winning. At last he's human and he seems very humble too. I'm very pleased for him...and I rather enjoy looking at his girlfriend too!

Speaks volumes, doesn't it? There's probably some poor old dear dehydrating on a hospital trolley in the corridor while Sir Miles rushes to post his next comment on ajb...
I don't suppose Murray would have won Wimbledon if he'd have to take a break to post on the Things You Do/Don't Want for Bond 24 thread...

That's why I don't work with the great unwashed
Your comment appears to be missing a smilie at the end...either that or you think a "poor old dear dehydrating on a hospital trolley" is fair comment ?
I knew that eye in your avatar looked familiar. You're Sir Miles the Harley Street consultant surgeon who cut my left leg off when I went in with slight flatulence, aren't you?

Yea...I must be going through 'the change'...
I just don't get all this arse-kissing though...he won a game of tennis...which he plays for cash...
Quite possibly - but don't get me started on that thread !! X-( )

I think I'm just perplexed at the notion that Lexi would actually PASS ON a bottle of Pims...unless it was empty )

I wasn't passing anything....I was nudging Lady Rose to stop hogging the bottle all herself, and pass the pimms to ME )
Lady R and Lexi - have either of you heard from Lady Alessandra recently at all?
Nope. Not a dickie bird ... She's obviously gone and got herself a life )

I think you'd want a bit of ass kissing if you were officially recognised as the second best person at your job in the world!
Don't like my threads eh? Well I shall have to post a systematic breaking down of all your comments in retaliation. :v Muahahahaaa :v
