Sadly a long gap between films is no guarentee of having a good script which isn't full of plot holes etc, and you lose the momentum of driving the series foreward.
Still it's nice to at least have a date fot it.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I'm not sure that zaphod is wrong, I mean what's the point of contributing to a forum if you don't actually like the new movies? It does seem to make sense, though Richard W does seem to be being a tad silly with his running through tunnels sewer rat analogy, what's that all about?
I say Craig will be back for one more simply cos if he's too old for the last one (says the script) then how old will he be 4 years on from that? Quite old. Plus time and trends march on. Plus it may be behind the insistance of getting Mendes back, like, if this is my last, I want the guy I want. Of course, I could be wrong, but think about it, the one after Bond 24 may be another three years... Unless they do back-to-back stuff. But then Mendes won't want to direct that...
Richard W in glib "know it all" comment shock ... now there's a first. Seems like a few of us mustn't have received that particular memo.
Anyway I'm struggling to understand why any Bond fans wouldn't be excited about a new movie? It wasn't too many years ago when we were all wondering when / if there would actually be a next installment following all of the apparent uncertainty. Isn't enjoying / discussing Bond & looking forward to new 'chapters' why we're all on here in the first place??!
Not sure which is better, telling us now that we've got a 2 year + wait but knowing for certain when the next Bond is coming, or waiting a year leaving us uncertain but then only having 1 year to wait. In many ways I'm glad we know now how long we have to wait and can start discussing further what to expect! But 2 years really is quite a long wait. However, can't complain, I'm sure time will fly by -{
I'm glad Mendes is back, Skyfall was a masterpiece, however many plot holes people can dig up. I wouldn't say having the same director and screenwriter 2 films in a row is 'milking the success of Skyfall', it's more keeping a crew that have just generated over a billion at the box office, which to me seems like an obvious thing to do.
Craig looked older in Skyfall, but still didn't look 'old', nowhere near how Moore looked in AVTAK or even Connery in DAF for that matter. Craig is looking fine for his age and I'm doubtful this will be his last Bond. If Bond 25 comes out in 2018 or before then I'm sure Craig will be kept on for it.
Now I understand that Craig doesn't have the "boyish" looks of a Tom Cruise (51), but nowadays it is quite common to have believable action heroes/leading men well into their 50's and even 60's. IMO, you really can't compare DC with an aging Moore or even Connery. IMO, Moore while being incredibly suave, handsome, clever and witty was always a stretch when it came to the badass/physical stuff and aging made it more difficult for him to pull of the illusion of a tough man of action in his last couple of Bond films. Connery got away with it better IMO....well, because he was Connery; just so much screen presence and even when he appeared to have let himself go and gotten a bit paunchy he stilled looked like he could punch someone out (just as long as the fight didn't last too long). Ironically, Connery actually looked much better (more fit and capable) in films he did such as "A Bridge Too Far" and "Cuba" which were several years after DAF.
Actors such as Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Hugh Jackman, and the aforementioned Cruise have been able to remain viable into older age.
Craig, much like Charles Bronson, will probably be able to stand the test of time despite his "craggy" and less than "classic" looks based in no small part upon his lean, well conditioned physique. EON has also paved the way for DC to continue for another two films by morphing him from the young, raw, 007 of CR and QOS to the seasoned, veteran, 007 of Skyfall who has entered the twilight of his career.

Thanks Nap. For clarity, it's not that I don't like the new movies. So far I love one, loath one, and one is a 6-7 out of 10. It's more that I fear that the huge success of Skyfall is in my view unlikely to curb the worst excesses of Skyfall and that the Babs/Craig/Mendes love in for me at least is not something that I am particularly looking forward to. I also feel that waiting for Mendes signals more of the same and is probably a mistake. I could be wrong (it's happened before you know) but until we know more there is little point in hanging around like a bad smell stinking up
the place. I'm happy to contribute to other discussions where I can be more positive.

As much as I liked Dench I think it was getting a bit stale with regards to mothering DC's Bond and in a way she was a major part of the DC Trilogy (prob too much in QoS and Skyfall)
I think we will be in for a nice surprise having Fiennes as a no nonsense old style M and it could have quite a good impact on the next film, therefore I think the doubters might have something to look forward to and bring back a bit of the "old" days and less of the nagging

Glad to hear that things are moving along nicely. I am pleased to hear that Sam Mendes will be returning to direct again and John Logan is writing the script. After all of the rumors I am glad to hear a real piece of news for a change.
With Craig doing "Betrayal" into January it was obvious that 2014 was never going to happen. I'm just happy that it's not 2016.
I was hoping for 2014, but kind of always thought it would end up being 2015. I am glad EON didn't get cocky and go for a summer 2015 release. Bond owns the late fall....better to be the film all the other studios are dodging. I wonder if there is any stipulation in EON's agreement with Mendes that Bond 25 be a fall 2017 release with or without his participation?
I think we can be pretty safe in assuming 24 and 25 will not be filmed back to back, or any Bond films for that matter. I don't think it's realistic considering the locations and real time shooting and images used in Bond films. Back to back filming works better in films that employ tons of CGI and blue screen.
Sure, I wish there was a Bond out every week, but then they'd get bad. I'll use an analogy, and if you play video games, you should understand this one. I'm afraid, if a new Bond came out every year or even 2 years, it would turn into a Call of Duty type thing. Copy and pasted plots, and if not that, really bad ones. I personally think it's better to have a while so I can have some time off and get some perspective on how much I miss the franchise, thus letting me enjoy the next one more. It's like having candy, I suppose. Too much at once and it's bad, but once in a blue moon, it's heaven!
I'm not too bothered by the date.
Like many others I prefer Quality over Quantity.
Time spent doesn't always result in high quality. Anybody remember Duke Nukem Forever?
Alot of people are commenting that it isn't the 60s/70s anymore but if anything filmmaking is easier than it ever was what with CGI and superior editing plus larger crews, so by that logic we could in effect have a new film even quicker. Of course nowadays actors/directors etc. have more commitments which adds to the wait. I am not saying the long wait isn't justified I just don't agree with some of the comments relating to quality over time or filmmaking for some reason taking longer than it did years ago because it simply isn't true. Anyone with a video camera and after effects can knock out a professional looking and high quality piece of film in nearly no time at all these days.

I know what people are saying when they say "I prefer quality over quantity", and so do I. But time gaps between films don't necessarily mean quality. They can do, but it's not always the case. For eg, DAD came out 3 years after TWINE, and we all know how loved DAD was.
I like Mendes and think he did an excellent job in SF, but there's hundreds of other great directors that could have directed bond 24 and would have probably loved to as well. If they want Mendes that bad, then they could have tried him for bond 25 whilst someone else does bond 24. But then again they may have no longer wanted him at that point as someone else (possibly the bond 24 director) could be on their wish-list instead, but that's still ok, because EON would still get what they want either way.
When it comes down to it, the series is bigger than the director.
That's correct. Logan appears to be the loan screenwriter for Bond 24.
The latest James Bond film Skyfall marks the last Bond movie for the series' veteran screenwriting team of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. The duo's Bond film debut was The World is Not Enough and they then worked on Pierce Brosnan's last Bond film, Die Another Day, as well as all three Daniel Craig entries.
Purvis and Wade made the announcement while appearing at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival. “We’re very happy to have done five Bond movies, I think we’ve gotten it to a good place," Wade told The Hollywood Reporter. "I know that John Logan and Sam Mendes [Skyfall's co-screenwriter and director, respectively] have come up with a plot for another one, which takes the pressure off, because these films take up a lot of time.”

Judging by the length of time he spends on here, I'd hazard a good guess of not a sniff! )

I definitely don't want to see that Bond film.
