aaaarrrghh the bread roll

always shakenalways shaken LondonPosts: 6,287MI6 Agent
Went to a big wedding the other day 100+ guests
am I the only one who eats their bread roll correctly?
every one seems to cut theirs in half and butters it (as if to make a sandwich)
I just want to stab them in the hand, aaarrrgh :#
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to eat...just people being snobs :D

As long as you manage to eat it....its fine.

Um, so what is the "right" way to butter a roll? That's the way I've always done it. Then again, it could be an American thing, such as switching the fork from left to right--something I'm actually trying to stop, since I think it makes more sense to keep the fork in the left hand. It's hell trying to eat peas this way, though. . .

Technically one ( :007) ) is supposed to break off a small piece of the roll, butter it, eat it, then repeat the process.
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
As far as the peas are concerned, I just pick the plate up and tip the little bastards in, either that or mush the buggers up then shovel em home.

The breads a waste of time and buggers up your guts for the main course, it's better used to chuck at the snobs or get the waiter's attention.

Luckily I can get a roll in my mouth in one go, So no problem there. :))

How small a piece are we talking here? Because maybe everybody else was just breaking one big piece off their roles, but to you it looked like they were breaking them in half.

    8-)

I eat my peas with honey
I've done it all my life
It makes the peas taste funny
But it keeps them on the knife

Domino makes a practical (if lyrical!) point.

I tend to use sauces to "glue" peas, corn, beans etc. together, unless the are in their own sauce like baked beans or lentils.

Re the bread rolls - small ones I cut into them and splurge a small about of marge in. Large ones I rip in half. - At a do involving a meal it also depends how much soup is served as the starter.

The trick is to not make a mess! :v
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I agree with always shaken. It's a shame that British etiquette is being eroded, it's something to be proud of. Now all you lot know how it should be done, go forth and be ambassadors for a very Bondian thing.

That leaves the question, - prick with a fork, or just bite the end off?
