Hi Guys, i'm taking the family of to the states for a holiday in October, we're going to be in Charlotte NC for a week as i have a training summit there. Then we thought about driving down to the coast, Can anyone recommend a hotel or even an area? we have been looking at myrtle beach but some reviews have said it's a bit overcrowded and tacky, which isn't too bad if it's fun but we're just a bit stumped.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't know the area, but I'd be very surprised if Myrtle Beach is crowded in October. . .the time to hit the beaches in the US are the summer and during Spring Break (sometime in March). Otherwise, let's hope a North Carolinian chimes in (I live in Texas, and the closest beach is Corpus Christi).

Myrtle Beach is a bit beyond tacky in my opinion. It's a bit of a drive and there isn't much of an interstate between the two, but Atlantic Beach in NC across from Morehead City was pretty nice last time I was there. But then again, in October in NC the beach isn't particularly fun. Unless you're dead set on the coast, I would suggest the Ashville/Black Mtn area. It's quite nice and sightly at that time of year. But then again, I don't know what you're hoping to do.
