Roger Moore:The Wild Geese

have to say I really enjoyed Roger's performance in this film, which begs the question: Why didn't he play Bond like this?? He was ruthless (forces a drug baron he worked for to eat cocaine and shoots the other in the head), and had an edge about him, in other words, his language was colourful. Made me think, had he played Bond like this, it would have been closer to a darker interpretation than what he portrayed. Don't get me wrong, I think Roger was a fine Bond, but this performance made me think,What if???

I agee a great film. -{ , I'd say the Producers had decided on a " Family Friendly" Bond so not too violent.

Check him out in Sea Wolves where he plays a real life ww11secret agent IMO that is probably the closest to Flemings Bond than any other interpitation.

Haven't seen the film. It sounds interesting and while the idea of a serious Moore Bond sounds good, I am perfectly happy with how his run went. I like the cyclical nature of Bond films going from straight-laced and serious, to over the top spectacle, to campy goodness. The variety is what always keeps me interested and gives me a film for any mood I'm in :)

Just purchased. It should like an old school Expendables!?

Yeah, but it is played fairly straight and its dialogue is its strong point. Expendables, well, I wanted to like it and the action is all there, but awful jokes.

Moore is on record as saying he didn't want to make his Bond too nasty, as he was a kids' role model and anyway, surely nobody could believe in the character anyway.

I love The Wild Geese, great cast! Also it is nice to see a film shot in my country (South Africa) from the 1970s, there are not many about because of the politics of the time. 'Gold', also starring Roger Moore (and directed by Peter Hunt) is another.

:)) Watched Gold only last week on one of the Channel 5 stations. Great film.

Saw that to TP and a few weeks earlier caught Shout At The Devil onBBC2 which I love and Apparantly Lee Marvin is on record as saying Sir Rog was one of the toughest guys he ever had to do a fight scene with.

Anybody have any thoughts as to why that doesn't that come through in Moore's Bond films? Perhaps the fight cooridnator(s) has something to do with it, but that doesn't entirely account for Moore's awkward way of throwing a punch or delivering a kick. And to be honest, although I haven't seen the entire movie, I have seen Moore's fight with Lee Marvin in Shout At The Devil, and I wasn't that impressed with his moves there, either. Not hating, just saying.

I believe Marvin was referring to Rogs stamina, Apparantly they had to keep doing retakes and Rog just wanted to keep going without breaks and he also hurt Marvin a number of times. How much of this is true I do not know as I was not there :) .
As to Rog looking awkward in fight scenes, I have never had any problems believing he could do someone some damage after all he was a former captain in the British army. To be honest one of my favourite fight scenes in the Bond series is the dressing room brawl in TMwtgg.
