How did Ian Fleming get so famous?

Does anybody know? I'm sure in his day he couldn't tweet Daniel Craig sex scenes to intrigue young impressionable audiences.

I think he wrote a couple of spy thrillers, which seemed to be fairly popular. That might have something to do with it. :p

As odd as it may sound, there was a world that existed before Social Media and even more remarkable it was possible to become successful, rich and famous based on talent and not just the ability to publicise one's self. Hard to believe, I know. So, in short, Fleming sold 'Casino Royale' to a publisher, who printed copies which were generally well received (by the public, if not all the critics) and eventually sold well. Word of mouth spread (by word of mouth...not little buttons marked 'like'), attention increased, more copies were printed and more were sold. Other books followed. His fame grew through appreciation of his work...and he became very famous, and eventually, rather wealthy.

There you go, spoiling all the fun by making sense! :))

Hey do you guys prefer your spy novels dark or light-hearted?

I prefer most things light-hearted, except for a bond film. since CR, i've enjoyed this hard edged mr bond, but a one liner here n there is always welcome.

as for novels, they don't come with crayons or pictures, so they don't interest me. i think this means i'm not a true bond fan...
