Tea or Coffee

Me again, ive done a few foodie threads ,strawberry jam foie gras ,bread roll
but is it tea or coffee , now my way of thinking Fleming ,British ,naval officer must like tea
and then again ,he lived in Jamaica so no point in letting all that blue mountain go to waste
So is this why our man is a coffee drinker, for me has to be tea with full English
but other than that its coffee, Turkish/Italian/Blue mountain :)
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

"Cars use petrol, planes aviation fuel, my Gran runs on tea!" Is what I used to say as a kid.

It runs in the family. I like Earl grey, Camomille, Peppermint as the herby blends, Eng breakfast, red berry occasionally. My best mates respectively got me forest fruits and traditional Namibian blend Roibus which is delicious!
Typhoo, PG Tips and Red label are all good "everyday" teas too, but I have gone off tetley.

(Looks round). Hoi! Who's pinched the biccie barrel?! :D
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I used to be a diehard coffee man. I drank it by the pot. Gradually I started drinking more and more tea, and now coffee is a rarity for me.

Tea-wise, I prefer the inexpensive yet tasty loose leaf teas I buy at the local Indian store: Tetley, Brooke Bond Red Label, etc.

For coffee, I only make it two ways: 1. Manual drip, using a Melitta. This method is actually very similar to 007's beloved Chemex. 2. Stovetop Moka pot. All those Italians can't be wrong.

Bond called tea a 'cup of mud'. For me, plain English Breakfast is the thing.
The scent smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. Then the soul-erosion produced by high gambling - a compost of greed and fear and nervous tension - becomes unbearable and the senses awake and revolt from it.

Yep, he also called it "The opium of the masses". Like Bond, I'm a coffee man through and through, can't stand tea - never have. I drink coffee strong and by the gallon though I know it's not good you.

No Blue Mountain for me though, I can't quite afford the £18 per Baggie they sell in Whittards - I'm a Nescafé guy.

Or as my wife says, Champagne taste - beer money :))

Earl Grey and something called Paris tea a very relaxing herbal blend. But love me some coffee. Love the scene in Living Daylights where he orders the coffee, tastes it and grimaces.

Fleming disliked tea because his palette was accustomed to strong flavors. One of the problems with heavy smokers (I used to smoke non filtered like Fleming between one to two packs a day) is that your sense of taste is really diminished and with age even more so. That's why you see smokers and seniors often adding all that salt & pepper to their meals. Only rich, heavy, spicy or savory foods get through all that nicotine. I was amazed how much more subtle my taste got after I quit. Tea would be like a weak beverage to a smoker and hard liquor drinker. (I didn't care for it much then myself). It's why I was surprised Fleming enjoyed Blue Mountain - it's rich taste comes from it being a medium brewed coffee. He had Bond drinking basically a dark French roasted coffee, which most French drink with milk as it is so strong. It could be had the Blue Mountain made stronger, hard to say, though I would imagine it would alter it's delicate taste. I now drink tea occasionally as well. My favorite now is a Russian tea call Czar Nikolas II Premium Russian Tea which is a blend of Ceylon black teas, spices and fruits. The other is Czar Nicolas Russian Caravan Tea, which has a delicate flavor with a lively slightly toasty/smokey, spicy character.

Coffee all the way! Drip, Bialetti, old school pot, Nescafe, percolator or espresso machine I do them all. SWMBO says it can't be healthy, I could start smoking cigarrettes says I (I am allready a cigar smoker...). As for tea: now that Smirnoff Ice Tea is no longer available, I only drink Japanese style green tea.

I think it was in YOLT that Bond said tea caused the downfall of the British Empire...

In the same vein Bond prefered a shower to a Bath, But I love having a Bath. When I was a smoker I'd go in with a Book, the radio on along with my Ciggies and a few cans of beer. A bath used to take at least an hour or so. :)) So basically I'm the oposite of Bond in most ways. :D

I like coffee, strong, made with my Moka express, but I don't drink it that often and never alone. I drink tea by the gallon however. I have a mug that holds 0,7 liter on my desk at work and have one at home as well. I don't drink that much black tea. Usually green tea, rooibos or herbal.

Dark roast coffee with a shot of expresso added. I like it strong.
