You know, Tracy getting brutally shot was perhaps the only character demise that made me physically cry when I was much younger and I cannot recall properly crying over a fictional character's death in my older teens/adulthood so-far (despite the fact I've read about grown adults crying over Tracy, Vesper, Aki, Mathis, Judi Dench M, et al dying) though I can occasionally get surprisingly depressed when dwelling over dead characters.
Fictional characters dying in other movies I've recently seen such as Copycat and The Jackal (risible, apart from said main character's death), and the TV series The Americans left me quite legitimately saddened as well.

I found this death to be funny rather than sad or disturbing, he was getting off on having his tux tails pulled up his butt crack. Kidd's death was disturbing though.

Yeah, this is probably my favorite Brosnan Bond . . . another weak Goldfinger-esque villain and some of the campy moments -- the whole Dr. Kaufman (Kaufman/coffin, get it?) character -- marred an otherwise good Bond movie.
Watching YOLT last night and think the relationship between Bond and Aki seems
very genuine and real. Her Death is very sad in an otherwise light film.

I don't think Dr. Kaufman's name is about the rhyme with "coffin". "Kaufman" is the German word for "Merchant" and Kaufman is a mercenary- a merchant of death. "I'm just a professional doing a job!"
^Maybe Dr. Kaufmann, as part of his MO as an in demand globe trotting assassin, has assumed a fake German identity and not as talented at accents as he thinks he was? )

Well (I've said it before) the problem was that after the incredibly sad and morbid accidental assassination of Aki, YOLT relapses back into being cartoonish again and seemingly forgets her.

As with John Barry's score for Aki's death (touching when Bond and Aki embrace each other, tense and eerie when the ninja assassin strikes, then deeply sorrowful when Aki dies) Vesper's demise is accompanied by a very moving and dramatic score as well (by David Arnold).

I think Vesper's death hit home as it was the first really emotional
scene in a Bond movie in years. Especially after the light weight, fun
movies of Brosnan. It was a big change.
I wouldn't say the Brosnan era was bereft of emotionally moving moments (Bond's interplay with 006, Paris Carver meeting a sticky end, and Bond resorting to shooting Elektra King, even DAD had a couple of emotionally affecting scenes that get lost amongst the dross).

Can't agree that these deaths were all that emotional. All the Deaths in the Craig films
have been hard hitting and emotional for Bond as well as the audience.
It has to be M in Skyfall. Judi Dench's portrayal has been something that the audiences have been familiar with since 1995. It sure hit me hard when she was killed off.
Death of Tracy will always be a disturbing and Emotional Moment. Even when Bond knows that she is dead, he still sees it has her having a Rest. Although this is most likely down to a sudden Shock.
