Whenever I hear people talk about this film they say it is awful and terrible but when I watch it think it action packed, has awesome cars, has two amazing villains and the Bond girl was really hot .

What do you think if it

One of my all-time favourite Bond movies. Brosnan owns the role, Arnold's score is fantastic ("Elektra's Theme", "Snow Business" being my picks), the supporting characters are colourful (esp Coltrane), it has spectacle alongside a human story of betrayal.

It also has Denise Richards, but you can't have everything.

I didn't like it on first viewing as I thought they were trying to force Q out of the series, but on learning that Desmond wanted a smaller role I warmed to it.
I agree that Brosnan is great in it, it has a good story and like Bondtoys I could watch D Richards all day long in those shorts.
Brilliant music ( love, submarine ). It's only the ski chase which I feel could of been done better.

I think it's my fav Brosnan Bond film. I love Electra's character....and the story has everything you need in a Bond film. Plus the villain is convincing and threatening...love the fact he can't feel pain.

Another evidence that it does not pay off to go cheap!

If they would have left that sequence to Bogner and the team, it would have been spectacular.

The same applies to the sawing of the Z8 at the caviar factory and the a bit crappy x-ray effect in the casino.

But yeah, sorry folks, TWINE just didn't do it for me and it is nearly as bad as Die Another Day, with the Brosnan era going off the rails in a comparatively short period of time after the pretty well regarded GoldenEye and underrated Tomorrow Never Dies.

Most of TWINE's action scenes seemed plodding compared to other action movies from 1990s/2000s and there's too much uninteresting plot, with Richard Carlyle being a small fraction as interesting, threatening, and somewhat sympathetic as he is in Once Upon a Time many years later (he was nearly Eragon level bad).

I've warmed to this on repeated viewings. Nowhere near a Top Ten title of mine, but it has a low-key watchability. Brosnan is fine as 007 & Sophie Marceau steals the show as Elektra. But Renard is simply inadequate, his much-trumpeted pain-threshold never really being capitalised upon. It feels that in a bid to get away from the action overload of TOMORROW NEVER DIES they went the complete opposite. The terrific pre-credits sequence aside, the action feels a bit muted. As a consequence the first & second units don't appear to really gel. The ski chase in particularly feels tagged on. I've no problem with a less-is-more attitude to stunts & set-pieces, but such an approach needs bolstering by an intriguing story. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH doesn't really have one, though it has the potential to have.

The Brosnan era, looked at in retropsect is a curious one. I never feel his films are distinct enough from one another. They've all got brilliant production values, but for me there's a conveyor-belt quality that makes them all a bit samey.

I always ranked it low. Always have, and I think I still do.

However, I LOVE Elektra King, and I think that she's one of the series' best villains. I consider her the main villain over Renard.

It's not a bad film, but it's just a very low ranker for me. It seems to lack something, and I get bored watching it at times. I find it quite an unmemorable entry. But then again, other low rankers for me are TND and DAD - And I think TWINE is probably my second favourite Brosnan film (but that's not saying much, as it's very close with TND, and a million miles behind GE...)

I enjoy TWINE for the most part. I think Brosnan gives his best performance as Bond, and Sophie Marceau is stellar as Electra. The PTS is one of the best in the series, and certainly Brosnan's best, and the plot is interesting. For me the main weaknesses are Denise Richards and the underuse of Carlyle as Renard. All in all TWINE ranks as my second favorite Brosnan Bond, just slightly below GE.

Only films since AVTAK that I enjoyed unreservedly.

But it has palled a bit since. Not very colourful to look at, and a good many TV actors in it, more obvious when watching on the small screen. Action scenes again poorly directed; only Campbell delivered for the Brosnan era imo.

Why couldn't directors hire the cinematographer for GE, why do they have to go with the guy they usually hire? It seems some are wedded to a particular director, ditto with Mendes. Why is this?

I do like the dialogue for TWINE, some genuinely good jokes in it, but the oil stuff is done in a soap opera way really. The boat scene is way behind the same one in Face/Off two years earlier, though obviously modelled on it.

Yeah, that was good. Some complain Renard wasn't scary, but I saw his character as a red herring.

I agree that Brosnan was at his most well rounded as Bond in TND and TWINE (with the former movie sticking in the mind more because its action overload was executed better). The Brosnan era was not a complete washout, with GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies being the decent upper middle ranking Bond movies (alongside Skyfall, You Only Live Twice, Licence to Kill, Goldfinger, and The Spy Who Loved Me). Quantum of Solace, Thunderball, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, and The Living Daylights are the middle middle ranking Bond movies, with TWINE trailing behind them quite a fair bit alongside AVTAK (not the worse and watchable, with a few good moments, but overall somehow both pretty "meh").

Die Another Day is languishing down there with Diamonds Are Forever and The Man With the Golden Gun; pretty boring and cheesy (with Moonraker and Live and Let Die as more engaging guilty pleasures).

I thought the intimidating male henchman in partnership with femme fatale mastermind storyline was done better in The Dark Knight Rises (but Tom Hardy seemed to be having more fun than Carlyle and more was done with his gimmicks).

TWINE is by far my favorite Brosnan film, probably in my top five Bond films. A lot of people remark that Renard was underused and on my first viewing I thought the same but I soon came to the conclusion that we were supposed to be focused on Renard, who is he, how does he run his operation etc. while Electra posed as the victim. Then when we find out she's the villain, all the pieces fall in place. The only part I would change would be the sequence with the helicopter. In my opinion it just dragged on too long and I laughed at the terrible CGI when all the blades went spinning off towards the camera, but Compared to DAD it's nothing

) . I can stand it though just for how nonchalantly Bond walks back to Zukovsky to start interrogating him again just like "Well that was a slight hiccup, now back to what I was doing." Definitely my Favorite Brosnan film, followed by TND, GE then DAD. But than again, QoS ranks in my top five as well

Like screename, TWINE is by far my favorite Brosnan Bond film. I love the reliance on character and the overall darker, moodier feel. And yes, I loved QoS as well.

The Brozzer films are annoying in hindsight because they could have been so much better. They seemed to made on the hoof. I mean, even if you can't believe them, some wittier lines and a bit more spectacle and colour, a bit more charm, and you'd have a decent replacemnt for the latter day Connery films, and Moore films in terms of what you can enjoy on a Bank Holiday Monday's telly.

I think TWINE's opening at the bank is absolutely perfect, i love the very small scale fight in the office that seems rare in the huge action and explosion extravaganza of the Brosnan films. Furthermore, Brosnan owns the role in the scene, from his quick fighting moves, to that famous "look" at the camera, to when he jumps out the window to the Bond theme. Its one of those moments when the actor just IS Bond. the ensuing boat chase is decent but i LOVE the transition from a badly injured Bond to the credit song and is perhaps my favorite transition in the series and is understandable why Skyfall did something similar. Sadly the remaining film doesn't hold up as well as the PTS and besides a few great moments the film kind of appears to me as dull and lifeless, there's not alot of energy in it compared to TND's which had an immense amount of style and energy. Most of TWINE seems lethargic.

^Yeah, the PTS is relatively good (the boat chase and memorable Cigar Girl, the hottest minor henchlady given a few lines since Jenny Flex) and the London location feels a bit funner than what it is in Skyfall.

Its a rather average Bond film in my opinion, that and Tomorrow Never Dies are both just ok...Now Die Another Day, there is a masterpiece!

I really don't like this one, its really bloated, a good 20 minutes could have been cut. I wish they went to the opening credits after he jumped out of the swiss bankers building. The sound design is awful especially during the Thames boat chase at the many times I saw it in the theatres..in L.A., Las Vegas, Atlanta, New York.... none of the action scenes had any impact, & no character development. It seemed like the movie had no action, it felt like MWTGG or FRWL in the slow department.

I love everything about the film and I could listen to the theme tune all day long. I think Renard was a magnificent Bond villain as they even explained he's pain thing

Everything is great about this film, except for perhaps the score isn't quite as mind blowing as TND's and Denise Richards is possibly the most mind numblingly awful actor ever.

I am actually not annoyed very much by Tanya, however I do prefer Ms. Richards. Honestly, apart from her rather stunning appearance, I've never understood all the 'she-can't-be-a-nuclear-physicist' stuff. And her acting isn't bad, it just isn't stellar. 8-)
I mean, who did everyone want in the role back then, Meryl Streep?

A thought on TWINE: Renard started (before the movie) as the main villain when he captured Elektra, but in doing so he created a monster more twisted than himself. That's the uncomfortable part of the film- the victim becomes the villain, and not only can't Bond save her, he kills the monster. A lot edgier than we were prepared for back then (& now, apparently). Not nearly as clean as killing Carver in a more 'fun' & comfortable entry.
