Unique and special in any kind of way: The Queen Mary 2!

"instead of building a cruiser, I convinced them to make a REAL ship!"

I know that many here can enjoy the degree of tradition and craftmanship of an Aston Martin.

We did our first Atlantic crossing on the QM2 last June and have booked our second crossing from New York to Hamburg only today.

We appreciated the incomparable comfort onboard the first time but I came across with that today, these are 1 1/2 hours well spent for every tech nut!

In the last years, Cunard has dramatically reduced the amount of atlantic crossings and prices have gone ridiculously cheap. In the present economic climate, I am not sure how long crossings will be maintained and I can recommend everybody to do such a thing before they are stopping service - the QM2 will be definitely too expensive to be run as a cruiseliner only.

If you want to discuss cruising particularly atlantic crossings, this should be the thread, you are also welcome to ask questions

I hadn't heard that, but I will certainly pass on to a friend of mine (who is part of the PR team at Cunard/Carnival) your good review!

    Hello Predator,

the linked file contains a lecture from Stephen Paine, the naval architect, who created the Queen Mary 2

However, we massively enjoyed our crossing on the QM2 in June and are looking forwards to the next one in october.
Knowing a bit more about this magnificent ship makes our next stay even more enjoyable.

as for the grannies on board: Yes, there are!

In all seriousness I had very deep feelings when seeing solo elderly women on board

    - have they been crossing with their husbands? If so, are they more sentimental that they are gone or do they get back good and enjoyable memories?
    - Was it something, they always wanted to do but the husbands did not want it?

On our last crossings, we have seen 2 men in wheelchairs and you could tell, that it'll be their last crossing. How have they been feeling? Delighted that they can do it (again) or desperate because seeing the end?

One thing that is on my agenda is to start a conversation with these people to learn - thinking about opening the chat by asking them if it's their first time on the QM2.

That aside, the age average is pretty high but everybody is pretty open for a short chat and we've met very nice ederly people on board.

That specifically does not include Granny Miles though :D

-{ Lex and I am sure that she'll enjoy it!

It seems that when she leaves the ship, we enter to go back with her to Hamburg
