Larger Role for Moneypenny

The article states that "the character is expected to step out from behind her MI6 desk and play a more active role" in Bond 24. Thoughts?

"The claim is made by the Daily Mail, who quote an unnamed source from the production as saying "the idea formulating in Bond-land is for Naomie to be much more of a sidekick to James, and for her to get out and harm the bad guys." "

Although in Skyfall she made a point of telling Bond she
wasn't cut out for field work and so became M's PA. :D

Exactly. Which makes this seem unlikely. The whole point was to give her a back story; she was a terrible field agent so she wound up with a desk job.

Deeper in the article it says what they are likely trying to do is find a way to give her more screen time and get the most out of her "rising star." Which would make sense. I imagine the truth is that her character will play a bigger role than the traditional Moneypenny but there is no way she goes back out into the field as Bond's "sidekick."

Please God no...enough already. Hope it's all piffle. Please just let Bond do his thang, no back story, no more self referential homage, just a worthwhile cause/opponent for him to get his teeth into. It's important in all Hero narratives that success is dependent on the central characters character and capabilities. We have an actor more than capable of doing this, just let him get on with it.

It seems to come out with every new Bond film. . .Girl X won't be just another "Bond Girl" but a female 007 or Bond's partner or sidekick or whatever. These stories pretty well write themselves. . .

The amount of times I've heard a Bond girl say in an interview that they "think my character is different from other Bond girls as she's quite feisty and strong, quite independent etc, more of Bond's equal more than anything." It's getting past a joke now.

Seem to recall Halle Berry even announcing Sony were considering a spin off series of Jinx films... Hmm.

Leave eve (still don't get how Bond didn't know her name) behind her desk where she's best off.

Kara in TLDs was too weak and needy, Jinx was trying too hard to equal Bond. IMO a Bond girl should be somewhere between. Melina Havelock was about right.

Expanded role for Moneypenny sounds good to me. Would rather her not be in the field, but wouldn't mind her getting 8-10 minutes of screentime, rather than the 2-3 minutes she would get in old Bonds. That is also a testament to how amazing Lois Maxwell was in that role.

Bond doesn't say that he didn't know her name...he said that they hadn't been FORMALLY introduced...which is quite different...of course Bond knew her name, but why would it mean anything to him ? Her name only means something to us soft barstools :D

Did it feature a male agent from Britain who'd been cast not really as a sidekick or flimsy ponce but more of a male equivilent of Jinx who's equally as strong minded and gutsy?

    No.

It's a script - fantasy - not real....it was done for the 'reveal' .....WE knew Bond's name...WE weren't supposed to know hers ;)

I really hope this isn't true. For the past few movies its been the Bond and M show now it might become the Bond and Moneypenny show.

Lets get back to the old days when Bond has a bit of banter with Moneypenny before and/or after his briefing with M, M briefs him on his mission then he is off and on his own.

If he needs assistance in the field that's what characters such as Felix, Mathis etc. are for.

One way I could imagine something like this happening is if there's a huge flash back that takes place before Skyfall. Say that they worked on another assignment prior to. I could see that as an opportunity for more action and camera time. Another way I could imagine this happening is if there was some sort of breach into MI6 and there's more involvement of Moneypenny taking action in the state of emergency.

Personally I enjoyed how they handled the whole situation in Skyfall on reintroducing Moneypenny back in the series... I don't think they really should tamper with it any more. I too am looking forward to the tongue in cheek banter between Bond and Moneypenny... I really miss that.

Moneypenny could fulfill a sort of Sylvia Trench role, where they are seen together on a date or something near the start of the film but are always drawn away to a mission before they can 'enjoy' each others company properly

Expanding the role of Moneypenny could definitely be interesting. Like almost everyone mentioned above, I think it is important to keep her in the traditional role, but maybe spice it up a little bit. Her back story was that she sucked in the field and obviously was not cut out for the whole field agent thing. I think that they can get very creative with the role if they find a perfect medium.

Also, I have no ideas on what they could do as I'm brain dead all the time anyway lol.

Here's my idea on each MI6 character and how he/she can be developed and used throughout Bond 24.
M-Briefs Bond on his mission. If Mendes wants to add "extra" elements to the film, he could show the new M trying to adjust to the role and trying to get use to Bond and his ways. They can also show M reacting to Bond's assignment being played out with him discovering the villians plot etc. and we could also show the friendship of the original Bond and M (like the novels). For example where M asks Bond to help out at his Gentleman's club Blades with Hugo Drax.
Would be nice to see him at the end as well, congratulating 007 or bumbping into him and a girl...

Miss Moneypenny- I suggested her filling in a Sylvia Trench role but she can also be like a bridge between M and Bond. Helping their relationship, 'He isn't that bad, James'. Still the flirting scenes etc. can continue.

Bill Tanner- Can help out with the mission briefing but also could be Bond's agent at home. Bond would be across the globe and asks Bill to research and give him information on criminals and organizations etc.

Q- I loved how they used Q in Skyfall and with Q being young he would give gadgets but also be Bond's '911'.
He could call him during a mission, simliar to the tubes scene, with Q giving himd directions, teaching him how to hack something, use a gadget etc.
