Sir Sean Connery's accent...

Is it just my imagination or has his Scottish accent softened over the years...? Lately he sounds almost English...I've watched Thunderball and Dr No in the last two days and then I saw him doing an interview from just a while back...it's changed..

I'm from Memphis and at 60 years old I don't sound nearly as deep fried as I did in my 20s. Maybe it's an age thing.

    I say that his accent has thickened with age. I had to put the subtitles on when playing the FRWL video game

    I think that's more his voice, not his accent. It became indistinct, unfortunately, just as he was filming Never Say Never Again; that characteristic lisp that impersonators do, Yesh, Mish Moneypenny, all that stuff. I don't notice it in The Time Bandits or Wrong is Right, filmed just prior - bad timing. Then again, I don't notice it in Indy and Temple of Doom either...

    Regarding the lisp, Roger Moore said in an interview with Paul o'Grady some years back that Sean's lisp had something to do with his teeth.

    And I do feel it has thickened. After watching Sean in The Untouchables, a great performance, his accent does seem heavy there. Maybe it's for the role of Malone? His character is Irish-American so that may play a part in it.

    However, watching the "Inside" documentaries, it didn't really seem heavy. But in the FRWL video game, as mentioned above, it was very difficult to understand at times. I don't know. It's hard to say.

    Accents and patterns can vary depending on age, voice clarity, speach pattern and proximity. My own accent thickens when I see friends in Scotland, or speak with other Scots on the phone. It subsides at other times. In Sir Sean's case it could be caused by half a dozen different things!

    the only time ive ever realy noticed Sir Seans accent is in RED OCTOBER but apart from that
    his acting is of a such magnificence that I cant honestly say ive ever stopped to think about it
    just to watch the master with his craft is awe inspiring that's when you know a true giant of the screen
    By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

    Of course...part of acting is the accent...would you accept Bond with a Polish accent...?....Superman with a German accent...?...Batman with a Russian accent...?...no you would not....so the acting is flawed...as good an actor as he is - he is crap at accents...apart from Scottish :))

    everytime that I have seen Superman, he had a very german accent - in fact he spoke german pretty fluently :D

    I could go on ,yes I would agree that Sir Sean did not have the best accent repatoir
    but who has ?Yul Byner will always be Yul Bryner wether the king of Siam or magnificent 7

    Well...I don't expect them to speak a different language :))

    But I don't expect a Scottish accent for an Irish cop...that's just stupid...and did Burton or Bryner win an Oscar....?....and you are talking about different eras of acting...but I did think Bryner's accent was good in the King & I...

    Well at least you acknowledge that save for the accent the acting was very good, so that's something.

    At times he's a great actor...just appallingly bad at accents...well, that's not strictly true...he just doesn't attempt one :))
