gentlemans relish

was given a tub of gentle mans relish, by a relative ,who knew one to be a Bond fan,
never one to turn down free food and accepted gift with relish if you pardon the pun,
anyway, turns out MR & Mrs Havelock are having it in a sandwich In FYEO (book not film)
just wondered if any one has had this acquired treat ?
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

    Yes, and they actually make the stuff in Aylesford , near Maidstone , not far from me .
    To be quite honest , I simply couldn't handle it ................... :s one of the worst things I've ever tasted !! :))

    It's commonly referred to as it's brand name Patum peperium...my Dad introduced this to me when I was quite young...and I think it's a bit like marmite, in the fact you either love it or hate it (not the taste, obviously)

    Love it on hot buttered toast, but less is very much more... :D

    Thanks for the tip Lexi, I would have slapped it on like jam ,what would be the preferred accompanied beverage,
    :)

    Well it's VERY salty...so I would choose a nicely chilled vodka martini, or a glass of Prosecco. -{

    And use it sparingly...you can always add more :v

    My uncle was a sailor and often said he missed the feel
    of a salty spray on his face from time to time. He also
    mentioned gentlemens relish but in a different way. :D
