Who gives a stuff about the position of the gunbarrel in the film? As long as it's still there. (I know i bitched about the positioning of the gunbarrel sequence in a previous post in this topic. I've had time to think about it and look at it from the filmmakers point of view.)
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
So bollocks to where is logical & where it fits in the context of the movie, lets just stick it at the start in order to shut the whinging brigade up??!
Yep I can definitely see that thought process being right up there at the production meetings ...
I fail to see how it is illogical to have the gunbarrel sequence at the start of the film.
Logical in the context of the movie? Up until Casino Royal it had f**k all to do with the context of the movie. It was at the start because it was something akin to a trademark. Let's get back to that and stop being too indulgent with it FFS.

I think that this sums up my view really.
If they had taken it out altogether then I could certainly see a grievance as such, but the positioning of it in all of DC's films has made total sense to me.
Clearly there's some who agree & some who disagree and that's what opinions are all about ... but for some to claim that they'd walk out of a film due to the placing of this fairly minor element is somewhat bemusing to me, considering that there's a couple of hours or so of film to be watched. Each to their own of course.
Have no fear. There is surely little doubt that it will return to the beginning of the film, now that the "007 origin trilogy" is complete.
Some have forgotten that the gunbarrel at the beginning provides an effective "stinger", and gets the pulse immediately racing. Some are pretending they don't care where it is.
Just be honest, guys. This is the internet. You don't have to lie to make yourself look good around here. It isn't real life.

Ah right, so people who don't care where it is or if it is there at all must be lying because it's a different perspective to yours. How utterly condescending can you get.

I really don't care. And I'm truly at a loss as to how that makes me "look good around here", but whatever.
I would like to see the gunbarrel back at the beginning of the movie, however, I won’t let the place of the sequence spoil a movie. I am indeed more interested in a good script and movie.
But let me tell you what the iconic gunbarrel sequence meant for me.
I became a Bond fan in the dark ages between LTK and GE and by the time GE hit the cinemas I had seen all the other Bond movies on video of TV. So when I was in the cinema and the white dots appeared for the (for me) first time on the big screen I was like: “O wow, it is really happening! I’m watching the new Bond movie in the cinema Woohoo!!!”

I agree. I hope to see the same thing someday as I only became a fan about two months before Skyfall premiered (then I spent that month watching all the films, reading all the forums and completely immersing myself in the religion of Bond so to speak.) I was expecting to see that at the beginning of Skyfall, and was utterly disappointed that it wasn't there.
I found it odd how the very first shot of Skyfall was so reminiscent of the gunbarrel. If they wanted us to think of the gunbarrel at the start then they should have just put the damn gunbarrel at the start.
I agree that moving it to the end doesn't ruin the film, but I also agree that it's a stupid and pointless thing to do. With all 3 of Daniel Craig's films I've watched the movie without even registering the absence of the gunbarrel at the start... until it appears at the end and I walk out of the cinema thinking "why was the gunbarrel tacked on to the end?".
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.

That is pretty much the case for me as well. I also became a Bond fan in that six year hiatus, and it wasn't until those white dots appeared that I thought, "finally, the hiatus is over". It is what signifies the start of a Bond film; it is what gets the pulse racing for two hours of Bond. Then I was slightly disappointed with the modified fanfare - it sounded too "electronic", and I detest electronic music. I wanted to hear that original theme as it was in the first four films (Thunderball in particular had the best gunbarrel) - that's another aspect that should never change.
The gunbarrel sequence shouldn't be anywhere but the start of the film. If for no reason other than tradition, it must be at the very start.

Then by your terms of 'tradition' then Bond should have finished with Connery...and with Cubby...and Young....
I couldn't give a monkeys where the gunbarrel is...as long as the film is good...I really don't know why you have such a huge hang-up about this ?:) ....I wonder what other 'traditions' you stick too ? I genuinely feel pity for you.

We don't want our moderators to indulge in straw men, and certainly not our "Chief of Staff". That's our domain, not yours. You're supposed to be better than us.
I'm sorry...I didn't realise I wasn't allowed an opinion 8-)
I'll happily resign to be allowed a voice....and I'm better than no one...
Over the years I've come to the opinion that to keep the series fresh, they should shake things up
sometimes, I'm sure the gun barrel will return, at some point.

Why? Because his opinion differs from yours? He believes the gunbarrel sequence MUST be at the start of a Bond film. So do I. You don't. That's fine. I don't pity you for your belief.
I also believe, like you, that a good script is a must. Why can't we have a good script AND the gunbarrel at the start? It's happened before.
I don't get this derision towards folk who believe the gunbarrel should be at the start. It's not an unreasonable belief.
Likewise, I along with others don't see why the gun barrel MUST be at the start. Yes you may well prefer it there & that's fine, but some of the comments elsewhere on the boards that have stated that they were actually going to walk out of the cinema with the entire film yet to be shown just don't make sense to me (& probably many others).
The gun barrel should be where is right in the context of the film, not just shoe-horned in at the start, middle or end to please some. I believe that in the last 3 movies it's been spot on in its position & there was no MUST about it.
That being said, with the recent "journey" Bond has taken, I would be quite at ease if it took place at the start - if it sat well. Mind you I'd far rather have a cracking story & script!

My pity is not for his opinion....its that he feels it somehow ruins the rest of the film if it isn't - and the BEST reason he can give is 'tradition'....really ???
The 'derision' isn't towards the people, its towards their non-reasoning....and the fact that people are still upset about it some 8 years on ! 8-)

This.
Likewise, I'm "truly at a loss" as to why it couldn't be moved back to the start of the film where it has been for the first 20.

You took the words right out of my mouth!
Or we could just read the big poster that says "Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in.........." Just sayin'! )
