Bond has always been a contemporary figure. In the 50 years he has been on screen things have changed quite a bit. Bond girls became Bond women because it was the PC thing to do, Bond stopped smoking because where he used to smoke 3 packs a day now smoking is frowned upon, M became a woman because it fitted in the ´new´ era. However, what never changed was Bond´s drinking habits. Let´s face it, he drinks often, a lot. And has no problem at all getting into a car after a Vesper or 2 (or 3, okay 5) for a high speed chase.

James Bond - operation (heavy drink)
I agree that like smoking, Drinking will be the next "Politically correct " item that gets
cut down. I can't see it stopping altogether though. Mabey he'll have to change to Pints?
