I personally have no problem with them, I've never heard of reliability problems and they are after all built from genuine parts. I've heard of people having issues with Omega not wanting to service them but I'm not sure why you'd send one to omega for service anyway?? My own SM300 has had new parts fitted ( hands, dial, crystal and bezel insert) which I did due to the fragile state or condition of the originals, all watchco did was buy up nos parts and assemble them.
Of course had they have tried to pass them off as original pieces that would be wrong but they didn't.
Thank you Chriscoop for the info.
I'm impressed you know Watchco!
I checked on Chrono24, and you can find some of their models at crazy prices.
Apparently, it holds its value.

I believe they are Australian and bulk bought a lot of new old stock parts and cases and assembled the SM300 themselves. they were still available I believe up until a few years ago direct from watchco which would be like buying a brand new SM300 from 1960's a brand new vintage watch!! As far as I can tell the only major difference is in the bezel insert which on original SM300 was lumed but the ooem nylon/bakelite replacement parts it isn't and has white numerals.
I came accross Watchco while repairing the SM300 my grandfather left to me. Australia has a wealth of parts available, I've had everything from oem crystals to pallets sent from Oz.
In fact all this SM300 talk makes me want to wear mine today
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I picked up a ‘new’ condition vintage SM300 some years back with a broken main spring. Got it serviced for £500 and I was still quids in vs the prices they were going for at the time (2k). Not sure if it is a Watcho or not but assumed it maybe due to the near perfect condition and newer lume. They are great watches with a touch of class, look great on a NATO but really cool on a OEM Mesh from the period (not a fan of the 1171 bracelet it rattles to much for me).
If you can get one at a good price personally I would say go for it they hold price well. Only issue I ever had was the date version I have the quick set function for date involves pulling the crown in and out and one day I pulled out to hard and broke it, easily fixed though). Some worry about the plastic glass but Polywatch is your friend there and works a great.
Due to its military heritage I think it’s the watch Bond should have been issued back in the day, but that’s just me.
Picture for reference

P.S Also looks cool on leather

I agree the mesh bracelet looks really good. -{ -{ -{
Apparently, DC is a big fan of the watch and participated to the design of the Spectre SM.

Personally Im not to keen on NATO's, I just thought your one looked softer than the people that make the issue one. When I have worn them they are either to small or to big. Which is fine as I prefer a Bracelet or Rubber strap.
BTW, your link isn't working -{

It's similar to the Omega NATO, like a seatbelt type weave. Silkier and tighter than the usual NATO straps you can get. I'm not that keen on them either, but it's grown on me.

Yes by all accounts he was given his 1968 SM300 by omega 1968 being his birth year, and dc has been quoted as saying the SM300 master coax used for bond was his idea.

Wow!!!
Big triangle model.
This is super rare!
Thanks for sharing and Wear it in good health -{
It very rarely comes out of the case, and when I inherited it it was in shocking condition, my grandfather destroyed it and it had been flooded, the original dial had the tritium sign under the automatic legend, I don't know if it ever had solid strap bars but it didn't when I got it, so whether my grandfather had it converted I don't know, when I got it it was on a brown leather strap with big circle holes cut in which got smaller as the strap narrowed. Must have been de rigeur in the late seventies early eighties when he died........ Wearing the watch!
I did lots of work and the "new dial" came from Australia and it was the only I could find with the tritium sign on which was important for me to preserve. I have kept all the original parts just incase. It also never had a military big triangle caseback with the stamped numbers, just a standard one
Comments
Was totally worth it back when it could be had for much cheaper. Now, probably better off with going with a more reliable newer watch.
I think the Planet Ocean 2500 takes the best elements from this watch and improves it anyway.

Newer subs are like newer 911s.
They both have something that doesn't make them look as good as their predecessors (eg. 14060 or a 964).
Tread carefully dp..... Snakes have sharp fangs. :007)
Is that an Omega nato or unbranded ?
