As I'm so far very disappointed with NNTD clothes, I have spent my budget into Roger Moore era Seikos.
Interestingly, prices of these quartz watches are going up.
I was influenced by the re-release of Orlebar Brown.
Which ones have you bought?
I bought them all, including the Seiko TV.
Some are cheap, while others are difficult to find and thus require a bigger budget.
As always, if you are patient, you can get good bargains.

I must admit the child in me still wants the Octopussy tracker watch

Generally I'm annoyed by Wei Koh and his interviewing style BUT this article is 100% spot on especially with the point about Baselworld and by extension the restraunts/hotels being greedy!
Wow, that was a good read! I didn’t realise the situation was all so crazy...and how difficult/greedy Baselworld higher-ups were being It’s going to be a quiet expo for them next year now with all the major companies gone—serves them right.
Ha! That's hilarious. In a way I kind of have little sympathy for some of them, seems slightly ironic for watch brands or anyone involved in promoting them to complain about prices. My mate sent me a link to an eBay sale for a new Patek Phillipe rubber strap (rubber) on sale for £7,000. And apparently that's the going rate!
Well, Patek obviously doesn‘t charge those £7k, those are some people who went lucky at their ADs and are now trying to make the big bucks on ebay because people are totally crazy in that field.

As for Baselworld, I can tell you from first hand experience about the rip-off cartel that happened in Basel for far too long.
Hotels, restaurants charged crazy prices * with very little service when the watch world came together once a year there and the behaviour of the MCH has been obviously influenced by that arrogance.
How a company that had a decade-old money cow with an outdated business model manages to scare off their best and biggest clients month after month and still sit in the high seat with the dream that they are still controlling that fragile market is beyond me.
And MCH reply shows in what universe these people are living.
Rolex and Patek have been the faithfullest of the faithfuls, they still supported Baselworld while everybody doubted them.
And after they left, the MCH finds is necessary and appropriate to reply by speculating that this was a long planned secret operative by those companies.
I sincerely hope that Baselworld is done and that those who totally screwed this up are getting the boot.
*I loved the constant mocking from the Hodinkee team about the $17,— (or was it 12,-?) Coke light bottles (20cl)

I was jammy enough to be able to convince Patek Salon in London to sell me a green Aquanaut strap (a month after they changed policy that you must own the limited edition green Aquanaut the green strap belonged to)
In the end I wasn't too keen on it and saw the crazy prices - so put it on eBay. I got 500 quid for it which was crazy money at the time and I had done well. Fast forward a few years and they are now going for thousands - doh!!

I thought Coke in Disney was bad enough $$$$ )
Sounds like they were so far out of touch on this - especially considering Swatch had already jumped ship previously

That was the going rate at the time lol!! I just missed the crazyiness and I guess one way to look at it is I missed out on a free Submariner )
I remember when I first became really interested in watches and when Goldeneye came out, my local jeweller was selling the Goldeneye Seamaster for £850 - way out of my league. They also had a Rolex Submariner in the window that I would gaze at most weekends (obviously no supply issues back then) - It was an eye watering £1800!! If only I knew then what I know now.. 8-)
Well, Patek obviously doesn‘t charge those £7k, those are some people who went lucky at their ADs and are now trying to make the big bucks on ebay because people are totally crazy in that field.
How much is reasonable for a little bit of rubber? £700, £800?

They retail for around 160 quid if I remember rightly when I bought one from Patek direct

Why would anyone buy one if they don't have the watch? Do they just not like people mixing and matching straps?
The Green strap belongs to the ultra rare green steel 40mm Aquanaut (not be confused with the new bigger white gold 42mm version)
The black strap belongs to the standard black Aquanaut (see mine above)
What happened was that people realised you could still order the green strap from Patek and put it onto the standard Aquanaut as it looked cool to mix and match colours. Therefore for a small time people picked up a green strap from Patek before they stopped it. I believe I was one of the last people to buy a green strap from Patek London - now they will tell you to do one unless you own the green Aquanaut it belongs to.
Anyhow now that you are not allowed to buy the green strap to put on your black Aquanaut etc people who are lucky enough to have one have been taking advantage of the crazy demand and hence the now obscene price for a piece of green rubber!!
In a nutshell Instagram and social media showed people wearing the Aquanaut with the green strap and started a fad - now everybody wants one to put on their own Aquanaut
To add to that - when I bought my green rubber strap from Patek they would not let me buy it unless I sized it (cut) right there and then. It was clear they already knew back then that people were only buying to flip. Now there is a new red limited edition Red Strap Singapore Aquanaut.....
Ive come to the conclusion im very happy with my collection of 4 watches. Ive been through so many Omega and Rolex models buying and selling that I am at the point where I am finally content except one last piece of the puzzle - I am missing a Rolex Diver.
I have had quite a few over the years:
114060 Submariner
116610LN Submariner Date (my first)
116610LV Submariner Hulk
116660 Deepsea SeaDweller
I dont want to revisit the above for the following reasons:
116610LN - this was my first but prob the one I disliked the most. Im just not a fan of a black sub with Cyclops! Im not keen on modding my watches either i.e. knocking the Cyclops off
116660 Deepsea - amazing chunk of steel. Engineering marvel but too big and heavy
116610LV Hulk - loved it and for some bizarre reason the Cyclops didnt bother me on this one compared to the LN Black. Maybe the green and crazy sunburst dial distracts me from the Cyclops. However I want a more traditional Rolex Diver for my one and only i.e Black!!!
114060 - Great watch, prefered over the date counterpart and maybe I should of kept it. Like the other modern Subs the case is a bit blocky / square and more importantly to me the glossy dial and bezel started to annoy me (didnt mind on Hulk because of the colour since its far from the original DNA)
Anyhow ive come to the conclusion I have lost interest in modern glossy glossy Rolex divers so im pondering the following when all is right again in the world:
1) 14060 Submariner 2 liner - classic and can still find minty and I guess less concern wearing it hard and in the water then a more costly vintage 5513 which I have ommitted from this list.
2) 16600 Seadweller - similar to above but with a date and no Cyclops
3) 116600 Seadweller - discontinued ceramic version but with a matt dial, more traditional case (not blocky) and with the superb glidelock bracelet. Will the matte dial / less glossy look be a good compromise / offset of the glossy ceramic bezel?
Dont normally do these type of posts but im bored shitless with this lockdown so any views or thoughts??
PS - waiting for the NTTD Omega but it does not have any bearing on the above. Knowing my past behaviour with Omegas it will prob be flogged after a few years ago when bored!!!!! In fact ive lost interest in receiving it if honest.

I’ve had exactly the same thoughts of late. I’ve got plenty of vintage Subs and although I love my ceramic sub, I really want one of its predecessors again. Had both the 14060 and M, and as we well know, my 16610 was nicked by a mongoose. Not monkey. There’s only one choice for us really, and that’s a 14060 twoliner. I was thinking about the SD4000, but the smaller dial and deep rehaut always put me off wearing them. Plus the thickness too. Something slim, classy and elegant is needed. And that’s the 14060. A couple of months will be the right time to buy. After that, they’re only going to go up and up. Even more so if rumours are true and the Sub gets updated soon.
Anyway, I guess we are going to hear Higgins opinion soon, which will have no reflection or consideration at all on what we want )

If I remember correctly you have a Nautilus, Aquanaut and the Daytona but I don't remember what your 4th watch is....GMT Master II?
Regarding your 3 choices I'd figure out where this fits in the rotation and if you really need a date complication. If you don't need a date then the 14060 is the obvious choice but if you do my heart says 16600 ( full disclosure I own one) but my head says SDK4000! The discontinued Sea Dweller gives you all you want with a superior bracelet BUT I'm not sure if you'd like the ceramic bezel seeing as it bothered you on 116610LN.

Not any more that I can see!
They do if you own the watch it belongs to!
Actually I think they went up a little and Patek sell now around 185 GBP for the Aquanaut straps
People buy parts and put them on other models to try and boost their chances of selling the watch as something it’s not.
