When I started with watches in 1984, Rolex was still regarded high and desirable (I've bought my first GMT on my first working day with 30% staff discount).
But most other companies had switched their products to Quartz - twotone with visible screws was the dernier cri!
Ebel and Cartier where the cool kids back then but these all where analogue.
LCD Seikos where heavily unpopular because of the cheap Casio and Citizen competition but their analogue Quartz watches (in particular the newly developped Analogue Chrono) where selling well for around 30% of the price of a Rolex.
My GMT sold for DM 2.775,-- back in the day and good Quartz Seikos where around 500,-- and went up to slightly over 1.000 (Lasalle line).
In the 70s LCD watches where the last thing and noone could imagine to read the time from a conventional dial with the exception of some ultra-conservatists.
Seiko was always high end and the competitors miles behind - particularly in terms of design and quality. Prices of high-end Seikos have been more than 50% of a Sports Rolex.
So back in the mid 70s Seikos where ultracool* and pretty high end - nothing cheap about them back then!

Happy days! I just picked up my brand new Skyfall AT from WatchFinder in London! A watch I've been dreaming about since SF...
Very happy with the WF service and managed to nab one new with seals at a good price.
Also thanks to sumner89 for his advice on using WF. Again this forum has proven to be filled with very helpful members.

Congratulations! They're a beautiful piece. I bought one for my first watch. I love it! You'll never get bored of it. Every angle it's a beautiful thing to look at. I'm glad your buying experience was a good one too! Nothing better than excellent service to add to the smile of a new watch!

Just wanted to add that things went downhill for Seiko when they moved from being a jeweller's brand to a department store brand in the 80s - they've never recovered from that!
That move almost killed Omega, as well!

Absolutely stunning. The Broznan one is my dream watch, but I'm worried about buying a 20 year old watch. I imagine this is the Craig era one you've got here. There are subtle physical differences between the two, and the Broznan watches can easily be found for around 1000$ now, but, again, they are quite old. The Craig era ones seem to go for no less than 2000$ , but given that they are newer, and the watch is basically the same, I keep thinking about grabbing one of these. Got any recommendations on the better buy and where to pick up one for a good price?
