Thanks Higgins {[] I can imagine a Ti SMP would be a very comfortable watch to wear, the smp bracelet is still one of the most comfortable but in Ti! Ive always found the po bracelet comfortable but the new style is even better, has what look like ceramic balls in the clasp which is also an improvement on the old metal type which did wear down after years of use.
Looks fantastic Chris! Is this the one you got from the police auction? Where can one get low priced Omegas from otherwise? I really want the Broz Omega, but they usually run $2500. Wouldn't mind picking up a beater for less. You seem to know about restoration projects, so thought I would ask.

Cheers JB and yes it is, blue smp's can be found cheap, especially with a quartz moment, if a mid size suits your wrist even cheaper, I picked up a 2220.80 in bad condition for under 600 gbp, so they are out there, obviously take care with authenticating one, if you find one without box and papers I'd ask for an independent authentication. As for restoring them, I tinker with the cosmetics, but leave the movements to my watch repairer.

I guess it depends on what parts they need doing to them. An Omega service in the UK is £300 (at least it was last year when I had one done) and they will replace any small parts that need doing to keep the watch ticking over (no pun intended). They will also buff out any scratches that they can get too.

Yeah £300 is about right for an omega service, maybe more in London or for a service on a 8500 movement. But the watches we are concerned with here will have a 2500 movement (cr) or an 1120 movement (brozzer automatic) or the bullet proof quartz. The 1120 is essentially an eta lever movement and any half decent watch repairer van work on these and also the 2500, I had a 321 movement serviced last year by my guy who also replaced the pallets for £54. Watch now runs great but I sourced the pallets which cost £12 authentic omega shipped from Australia. If you shop around for parts you can find them cheap, the packaging of the parts will tell you if they are real. With the divers watch it's amazing the difference a new bezel insert can make to its appearance and those can be had for around £50 if you look and fitting them can be a diy job with a steady hand. Polishing out fine scratches is fine buy they will reappear as you wear it and IMHO a watch looks better once it's been worn, over polishing is a big no no. So you pick up a £800 pound watch, clean it up, Polish the crystal with any number of products out there, LIGHTLY Polish the case and bracelet with some very fine paste, replace the bezel, have it serviced if needs be and you have a good worn looking smp running sweet that should come in for around £920.
My watch man let's me source parts if not he has access to cousins in the UK, or there is ofrei in the states, even on eBay there are omega parts galore. I've spruced up my smp for about £60. and that's crystal, dial indices and bezel insert.

It's reported that the watchco SM300 were refused by Omega but they were watches made new from old parts and assembled away from omega so you can understand that. But aside from the latest 8500 movements I wouldn't send my watch to omega for a service, I have a local man who has sorted my watch services on all my omegas save the 8500 and they have a 4 year service interval, if worn regularly. Seriously would you buy a 18 year old car for a grand and take it to a main dealer for a service?
Boxes (inner and outer), cards, service receipts etc all help and of course numbers that match the watch. When you buy a watch you buy the seller so check out their profile (sellers with no or low feedback etc)

A new bezel makes a huge difference, but a genuine Omega bezel is about $300 or more. And Omega doesn’t sell replacement inserts – you have to buy the whole bezel.
Omega used to do bezel inserts but quite a long time ago now, you still see the occasional one crop up but there is no reliable source and full bezels are now the only oem option, obviously there are the after market items and these differ drastically in quality, I went that route with the smp as £289 for a full bezel just didn't make sense on that particular watch, obviously newer and more valuable watches deserve the correct treatment and you should only fit correct omega parts.

That is essentially functioning art, I've always admired such clocks, indeed my uncle has a very valuable glass dome clock which is huge, it does work with spinning pendulums but I was always fascinated by its movement. Lovely Higgins

In my young days, I have been absolutely fascinated about a Congreve Clock that we had in our shop.
Wristwatches use a rotating balance for slowing the watch gear down and make it precise and with clocks, they usually use a pendulum.
A Congreve clock is using a little ball, which runs on a track and at the end hits a lever which tilts the track.
