TWINE Confusion

After previously watching TWINE, I was reminded of how confusing it can be at the start. I was wondering if you guys could clarify some things for me.
Here's what I know... or what I think I know:
- Bond visits Lachaise to retrieve Sir Robert King's money, but what was this money for? I was under the impression he paid this money to retrieve the "stolen reports," so why is he getting money along with the stolen reports?
- An MI-6 Agent was killed in the process? M later mentions that she sent 009 after Renard and he managed to put a bullet in the terrorist's forehead, but is this the agent that was killed?
- The money that Sir Robert retrieves for the stolen reports is the same amount required in the Elektra ransom, so we know that there's a connection. However, the stolen reports do exist and they weren't a cover-up, were they?
- The money was explosive, and since Bond was handling it, the ice on his fingers reacted with some sort of chemical I assume?
- In the torture room at Maiden's Tower, Elektra reveals she corrupted Renard (in a sense) and he joined her plan, which I guess would make Elektra the main villain.
I'm just extremely confused on the money deal, especially since M said they don't negotiate with terrorists. They did use Elektra as bait, twice. "I thought we had time on our side." If someone could please explain the above bullets to me, that would be much appreciated!

Actually, if I remember correctly, Sir Robert was a wearing a pin on his lapel. When he went to retrieve the money the pin sent a signal to a bomb implanted in the money. (or it was something very close to this)
As for Bond and an explosion....you're remembering the explosion that went off in M's office. The oils on Bonds hand reacted to the "ice" Bond put in his and M's drink. Thankfully neither of them took a sip.
I believe M said that King was lead to believe (probably from Renard or those connected with him.) there were stolen reports. When there were none, King's money was returned but as the banker says there were fees and such taken out, this is why the amount returned was the same as Electra's ransom.
Probably, or another agent on the case before 009 was sent.
The reports were fake.
