Let's rate Fourths...

ah heck why not?

Only three men have completed at least 4 Bond films as 007: Sean, Roger and Pierce

Now rank their 4th film! All three films share a theme of bigger, better and beyond. Only one film actually pulled it off completely.

1. Moonraker - The ultimate Bond blockbuster. Extremely high production values, expert craftsmanship, gorgeous locations, great cast of girls and villains, Roger in top form. Going into space? Big deal. It's not like Bond was fighting aliens or something really bizarre.

2. Die Another Day- Often Draws comparisons to Moonraker for being over-the-top, yet lacks the 1979 film's total command in tone. Wildly inconsistent thrill ride with many great scenes and a few truly godawful moments as well. My fond memories of seeing this one in cinemas helps elevate it into the mid-range of my top 20.

3. Thunderball - I'm not sure if I can legally rank this one lower than Die Another Day, but I'm going to anyway just because I find it so tedious. I shouldn't write TB off completely because it's still a classic Bond film, the trouble is I just can't motivate myself to actually watch it. Maybe I'll read the novel instead.
My current 10 favorite:

1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

This is actually a very tough one.

    1. I'd probably say DAD. Watch it the most and it's just one of the most entertaining films ever for me.

    2. JUST behind DAD is TB. Great, classic Bond that I don't feel gets the credit it deserves

    3. MR is stone dead last for me. It used to be my favourite when I was younger but I think I've sucked all the enjoyment out of it, I just Find it over the top in all areas now

    1) DAD --- Bad reputation, but i've loved it forever. Top 10? No, but it's one I get excited to watch. Mainly nostalgic reasons, but I do enjoy PB as 007, and I think Rosamund Pike is a great piece of eye candy. Great action scenes, an awesome car (even with the active camo!), and interesting henchmen in Miranda and Zao
    2) MR --- Looks absolutely stunning on BluRay! Great action scenes, outstanding special effects, love Roger in this one too!
    3) TB --- Bit of a drag at times, but overall it's a very traditional Bond plot with a solid performance by Sean :)

    1. TB - the most believable of the three, some spectacular camera work, and great production values for a '60s film.

    2. MR - outlandish, over-the-top, but FUN; something a number of other Bond film lack.

    3. DAD - bad CGI, tired writing, half-hearted direction, everyone acting only for a paycheck... need I go on?? 8-)

TB, great fun but still believable.
MR, even more fun, a little silly in places but it looks stunning.
DAD, first half very good, second not so good but I still enjoy it.

    1) Thunderball - the best locations, the best girls, classic SPECTRE.

The other two - hmm very tricky

Will go for 2) Moonraker 3) DAD but hard to choose to be honest

Wow, I've just realised that the three 'fourths' are my three least favourite of the series... let's hope DC's fourth doesn't turn out like that!

Die Another Day - For an amazing sword fight, great hovercraft chase in the PTS and car chase on the ice. Being an anniversary film there were some nice throwbacks to the franchise, a few too many but some were still nice, like the room with all of the old gadgets. The CGI wasn't enough to dethrone it from this number one spot.

Moonraker - My third favorite Roger Moore Bond film after GG and View. Such an interesting movie. The space fight was neat, sue it was bad, but fun none the less.

Thunderball - This is only last because I haven't seen it enough yet.
1, GE 2, CR 3, SF 4, TWINE 5, Spectre 6, TMWTGG 7, DAD 8, LALD 9, AVTAK 10, LTK 11, Octopussy 12, Moonraker 13, TLD 14, GF 15, QOS 16, Tomorrow 17, FYEO 18. TSWLM Not seen much: Dr. No, Russia, Thunderball, Twice, Majesty.

1st is Thunderball. Not the best SC film but head and shoulders above the other two choices.
2nd is Die Another Day. If only for the fact that this was the first Bond film I saw in the cinema. It has it's moments but they are few and far in between.
3rd is Moonraker. So much good source material they could have used from the novel but instead they made a film that wouldn't have looked out of place had Sid James played Bond. Can't blame Moore for this one, it was just awful (but funny if watched in the right mood.)

Wow. Spectre is really looking good now.

DAD is good for a bad movie. was nonsensical but creative and colorful.
TB is bad for a good movie. had all the bond elements but was boring.
MR is bad for a bad movie. had nothing aside from jaws and gravity effects

    1) Thunderball. A sixties classic featuring Connery's best performance, a superb set of villains and an interesting plot. The only downside is that some of the underwater scenes are rather slow-moving.

    2) Die Another Day. The opening section is fantastic, showing a level of grittiness not seen in other Bond films. However, after Bond travels to Cuba it quickly descends into a rather formulaic romp with some unconvincing science fiction elements.

    3) Moonraker. The plot is so ridiculous that I simply cannot suspend my disbelief, which is a pity as the first half of the film contains some rather good moments (especially the centrifuge scene and the cable car fight).

Easiest ranking game on this forum...

Thunderball - excellent example of a Bond epic. And it's a 1960s Bond with the best Bond actor too. Double points.
Moonraker - bonkers and fun: what's not to like?
Die Another Day - irredeemable ****
