This is the problem. Everybody is willing to look past all the ridiculousness of the older Bond films but the newer ones are held at such a high standard.
If the older Bond films get a pass then I think the newer ones should as well.
The older ones didn't quite take themselves as seriously.
... still, I chuckle when people tell me that movies today are so much more "realistic" than old movies will present . . .
Depends upon the type of movie obviously...and in general, they probably are more realistic...unless its a superhero movie....but even the special effects are more realistic today...
Higher verisimilitude maybe, but I wouldn't say higher realism.
...How does Bond survive the Sniper shot AND the gigantic fall at the beginning of Skyfall?
