Watched the Chris Pine version of of star trek last night (not bad) any way one things puzzles me
scene where Kirk and Sulu, parachute on to that drill platform thingy,so question is ,theve obviously invented a way to
overcome the effects of gravity ,and they can beam some one at light speed ,with me so far, so why are they relying on a
nice and square gets you there parachute to land our intrepid heroes onto it ?
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

The radiation given off by the drill makes " beaming " impossible, also they are being
Scanned by the villains ship, any attempt to " beam " down would be picked up, whereas
three humans skydiving would be too small to register. :D Now stop putting holes in
    the plot. :))

watched star trek today and one thing gets me
the people from planet Vulcan are referred to as Vulcans ,people from planet Klingon are referred to as Klingons
with me so far ? but people from Earth are referred to as Humans rather than Earthlings ? but good show anyway
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

AS, please don't go looking for logic (no pun intended) good ploting or common sense in Abrahms Trek, because there is none! I never understood why the Enterrpise didn't just fire a couple of torpedos at the beam emitter point of the drill, causing an overload. All the previous versions of Trek have bad science too, but the quality of the story in most cases, makes it forgivable. This film and its sucessor do the reverse, making the tech blunders (esp the in universe ones) worse.

Re names and races, many of the support books and materials clarify a few things. Trek VI, The Undiscovered Country establishes the Klingon homeworld is called Qo'Nos. (Kronos). Subsequent film and episodes have stuck to this or "The Homeworld." Bajor in the native tounge is Bahaviel, and apparently Romulus is a Federation nickname for the Romulan homeworld, though this has never been proved or even hinted in film or tv. For the writers it keeps things simple I suppose!
According to the Star Trek Starcharts Vulcan is oribiting 40 Eridani A, a real star, and the name is the native name for the planet and its people. Although the book in question is not that old, Gene Roddenberry approved the idea years beforehand, or so I have heard.
In Trek IV, the Best of Both Worlds 2 parter (TNG), and Valiant (DS9) our system is referred to as The Terran System.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
